Are cats afraid of thunder like dogs are?

Question:
Just curious. I can hear a thunderstorm starting and I'm wondering if Denzel will be hiding when I get home or not. He hasn't been through a winter or a storm yet.
Answer:
It depends on the cat, just like it does with the dog.
All my cats and suki the puppy have been out in thunderstorms and dont seem to be bothered by it. Suki wasnt even upset on new years with the fireworks.

Answer:
Sabby's afraid of thunder. Whenever he hears that first clap, he slouches off to the bedroom to hide under the bed.
Answer:
In my experience, most of the cats I've been around have been afraid-some more than others. Chrissy would typically get under the bed. On the other hand, there are cats that are completely oblivious to anything outside the walls.
Answer:
It really does depend on the individual cat. None of my lot are fazed in the slightest - half of 'em sleep through it, the other half watch out the window. I'm usually out in it...

Answer:
I think if it's a small storm, Kiera is okay, but one time we had a REALLY strong t-storm, and Kiera seemed a bit shaken.
But when it's really windy, the wall of my apartment creaks a bit (I'm on the end of the building), so i think she's used to some of those kinds of loud, unexpected noises)

Answer:
kinda late to this thread- daizy is terrified of thunderstorms.....She can sense them before they get here and since i'm terrified of them at night i have a bad habit of preparing- checking noaa.gov checking local radar, going to the bedroom and hiding under the covers....and when daizy can tell a storm is on the way she goes and hides under the bed or in the bathroom. we both had a bad storm one night-we both were under the bed hiding it was horriable but as usual the weather people said nah it wasn't a tornado just wind gusts....yeah right.
