Question:
Does anyone have any suggestions for rattlesnake training a cat? The other day one of my babies tried to attack a rattler!!!! I nearly had a heart-attack. I don't know what I would've done if she had gotten bit. Luckily, throwing something near her, got her to bolt. I really really really don't want this to happen again, and rattlesnake season is coming up. Please, if anyone can help, please do!!

Well, the easy answer is to keep them inside! I know they seem to love being outdoors so much, but imagine how terrible you would feel if something were to happen to them. And what good does the happiness being outside brings them if they are, to put it bluntly, dead?

Well, the reason I was so surprised was because I was out there w/ her. My cats are always kept inside, and when they go out, we stay out there and watch them. I just wanted to know if anyone used any methods to prevent this. I guess I'll just have to watch a little closer.

Black cat, There's no way to control where a rattlesnake is going to hide. Since a human being has to be rushed to the hospital for a rattlesnake bite, I doubt your cat would survive, and the pain would be tremendous.
The grass wouldn't have to be very long, or a bush very big to hide a rattlesnake. Their coloring would blend into the landscape in your beautiful state! Please keep kitty indoors or build a play yard for him with fine, but strong screening! (Of course, the top has to be screened too.)

I understand that's what you intend, but how are you going to watch the rattlesnakes? You can't train a cat to leave a snake alone. If there are snakes in your area, she will disappear into the desert, just the way your other cats did, I'm afraid.
If you're serious about protecting your cats, you have to keep them inside the house or a protected area. That's the only answer there is. I wish you the best.
