Attacking....still!
Question: I've written before about Monte's attacking issues but he still seems to be doing it and its getting pretty bad. He hides behind the couch now and when he sees me he'll jump on my leg and just bite (as hard as he can it seems) and jumps off, then he follows me and jumps back on and etc...He's broken skin on numerous occasions..I tried the spray bottle and it works for a second..once he cleans the dampness off of him, he's right back on me. I asked the doctor about it and he told me that he thinks the main reason that he's doing it is because he's a male cat and he may be "attacking" me for my husbands attention (since he doesnt really attack my husband at all) but what is weird is that for the most part. Monte is much closer to me than my husband. He rubs up against me as much as he can and when he's not "attacking" me, he's licking me or sleeping on me or meowing at me to pet him (he doesnt do that at all to my husband, he kind of ignores my husband at times). Since the water bottle doesnt seem to do anything anymore, anyone have any other suggestions? He's going to get fixed next month so I'm hoping that that helps to eliminate the attacking episodes also. Answer: It sounds to me as if he is acting as if you are his mum, have you tried hissing at him?? I have heard that this works very well (never had to try this myself) Also having him fixed will help I am sure. Good luck!!! Answer: It sounds to me as he is doing this for attention and stimulation - which he probably gets from your reaction? As hard and painful as it must be perhaps try doing your best not to react at all - even if this means wearing thick protective clothing around the house for a while, to stop him getting the reaction he is possibly after. Is your cat an indoors cat, ie, is he getting enough stimulation whilst indoors? Perhaps some more toys, hiding titbits of food around the house to keep him occupied. The fact that he is doing it only to you is probably because you have the cloest bond possibly which is why its your attention he is after. Are you together all during the daytime or are you home more or less...? I found 'Cat Confidential' by Vikcy Halls really informative on exactly this kind of behaviour. Hope this helps!!
