My dad is due to go in hospital soon and I said I would have is cat, trouble is she is not very pleasant! She fine with dad, when I or anyone else approaches her she growls scratches and attacks you! He says she just playing! My kids are scared to go up stairs. She sits on the stairs and guards it, if anyone goes by, she lashes out with her paw! Ive no idea why shes like this, she does prefer men, she did have a lot of homes before my dad got her from a rescue centre. She attacks my cats! Adbice please?
blaze is the messiah
Answer:
I would set her up in a room of her own, or the second bathroom if you have one.
And just have the kids leave her alone.
I am sure she is very stressed out!
I would just provide her basic needs and leave her alone.
Answer:
Agreed with all the above. You're only going to take care of her for a while. No need to try to integrate her into the household. A cat does not usually growl when it's "just playing." I think you'll be fine if you just leave her alone and keep her separated from everybody, including your own cats.

Answer:
Sounds like it boils down to him interacting with his cat differently than you do with yours. He probably liked roughhousing with her. Also, she's not used to sharing with others, 2- and 4- legged, so that's upsetting too. Blocking the staircase is her way of trying to regain control of something.
In any case, what's acceptable for him isn't working well for your household. I'd also vote for letting her have her own room (space), which will help her feel she has something of her own, and give your household a break.
Maybe after a little bit, she'll feel more social and even want to mingle.

Answer:
Do you know how long your father will be in the hospital?
A short visit I hope....if so...then for the stress of your own cats and his cat.
I really beleive you should just keep them seperate.
It can take cats up to a month or more to become aquainted.
I hope your Dad is ok and will not be hospitilized for that long.
