Inappropriate Behavior
Question: I have a semi-feral cat that I've had about 9 months. She was abandoned and half wild when I got her, and only a few weeks old at the time. She is slowly coming around to being a pet, but we are having a behavior issue which I am at my wits end on. Although she has no problems using the litter box, she pees on my comforter often. Always when I'm actually in the bed. Ewwwwww. I can't decide if she just wants me to get up or is declaring me as being "hers" (we do have an older cat). Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits Answer: http://www.CatFaeries.com is for Urine Behavior. The product is Feliway. Try that. Also try asking your vet abou it, see if he suggests something. ~Megan~ (Avatar Of: Detroit Tigers Pitcher 'Nate Robertson'!) Answer: She probably likes the softness/texture of the comforter when she goes -- what kind of litter are you using? Unfortunately, the comforter most likely smells like urine if she does it often -- even if you wash it every time she does it. You may have to wash it with an enzymatic cleaner, like Nature's Miracle, and if that doesn't work, you may have to get rid of it. This thread probably should be moved to the behavior section, which has more traffic. Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits Answer: I have rescued over 70 ferals, some as young as a week old that I hand raised. Unfortunately every one of them eventually starts urinating innapropriately in the house. I know they are stressed because of the other cats and that is what triggers it. I've not had any luck with Feliway or any other product. My only solution was to install a cat fence-in system on my fence and make the cats outside cats. They are so much more relaxed and happy outside. I think they always felt trapped when they were inside. Answer: I decided to try shutting her out of my bedroom at night, because that is the only time she urinates on me. I can't see (or smell) any other area in the house where she might be doing her business. I have also added a second litter box in another bathroom, so there is always one available. Other than this one issue, she is a real sweetie-pie. Just this past week she has finally decided that being petted is nice, as long as she's "in the mood".
