Shocked and Horrified

Question:
Tonight I found a poop laying in the corner of one of our rooms. In the bathroom off this bedroom is where we have the 2 litter boxes setup. I clean them daily and they are always clean. I have never had any litter box issues with either cat - peeing or poo and my husband and I were horrified to say the least. There was only poo no urine and the poo was fully formed and easy to clean - in other words not diarrhea. We both suspect it was Jake. It looked like his poo normally looks. I just don't understand. The boxes were both clean. Has anyone had this happen to them? I scoured the carpet to remove any odor and just hope I don't find anything there tomorrow. Both cats are acting completely normal, watching t.v. with us and hanging out. Any advice is appreciated!

Answer:
Has anything in the house changed at all? The smallest thing even. Any new people? Anyone not there who usually is? New litter? New furniture? If you can't come up with anything than I would watch him very carefully. If he does it again or you notice any change in his behavior I would bring him in for a check up.
Also, I would clean the area with an enzyme (like Nature's Miracle) to make sure the smell is gone completely. Even if you can't smell it, he can.
Answer:
Thank you! We have had house guests stay with us twice this month for a few days each time. He didn't seem bothered at the time but maybe he was. I cleaned the area with something I bought at the pet store - I think it was nature's miracle. I will check the bottle tomorrow. I will give the area another cleaning then. I know they are very sensitive to smell. Maybe he is sick of house guests! He does not seem sick, but if it happens again I will consult a vet.

Good luck! Hope you don't have any surprises tomorrow.
Answer:
Consider his diet too, if alot of dry food he may just have a stiff poop and find it easier to not be confined by a litter box,
I have seen mine on occasion get out of the box and finish on the floor, she doesn't like canned food but the pet foountain has put more water in her diet.
Answer:
On occasion I have discovered a little dropping myself but with my cat she gets freaked out with anything clinging to her little rear so if one takes too long to fall or is attached by a hair she leaps out and shakes it off or butt scootches to get it off. Perhaps that may be the reason for your 'present' as well.
Answer:
The update is that there have not been any more surprises left for us. But to clarify it wasn't a left-over. It was a BIG one - a whole one. It seemed pretty darn deliberate and about 10 feet across the room from the litterboxes.
Now we are wondering if it might have been Micah. Someone I know suggested it might be a response to taking him outside on a leash. That he thinks he's "feral" or something now. Has anyone heard of that perspective before?

Answer:
Often times, cats don't like the 2 boxes sid by side. If the problem becomes more consistent, move the second box to spot being used. Sometimes clean isn't enough. Sigh.....Some day I'm going to invent a device to talk to my cats in a way they will understand.

Answer:
I think I've gotten to the bottom of this whole mystery. One of Jake's back nails seems to have broken off very short to the point that it bled a little. I found the nail yesterday and decided to examine his nails for trimming. I think he might have gone outside the box because going inside with the litter hurt his paws. No suprises since then so this might be the reason.
