Cats CRAZY about Food - Help
Question: I know I'm not the only one out there with this problem. But after going on for over a year now myself and the members of my house hold have gotten pretty fed up with the 3 cats antics. They are OBSESSED with food. They always have been, but this is a new degree. They fight to the point of occasionally drawing blood at meal time, I can't keep them off the counters while preparing any kind of food. At their meal times I have to split them up well in advance into rooms, even then they sit, stressing the whole time until their meal comes. The rest of the day they are hunting for food and freaking out on one another occasionally when the prospect of food arises. In the past when my cats are constantly full they are much more laid back. However, I want to know WHY this is happening. They've all been to the vet, no problems. I've tried diet changes, and I'm considering starting a 24/7 supply of dry food again for them. Suggestions..? Answer: Interesting dilema, I don't know what to do to stop them being obsessed with food. But you could try feeding them at their own "dinner time" and keep one in the kitchen by himself while he eats, and then when it's the other cat's meal time, do the same thing. Let me know how it works out. Answer: Rocket is food-obsessed, too. Always has been. Maybe it was some experience before I adopted him. Maybe it's just his personality. But I have to split my three cats up into three rooms, also. Otherwise Rocket would eat everybody's food. And if I free-fed, he'd become a blimpie-cat. So, you have three cats like that, eh? Well, there's one good thing about a high food motivation: it comes in quite handy as a training aid. Answer: Well I introduced dry food back into their diet, since they have had access to that they have been much more subdued, even to the point of not finishing their wet food and refusing cat treats.... I just have to hope they don't become obese like they have in the past >_< "If You Won't Rescue, Don't Breed" "I don't have a chemical imbalance, I'm merely capable of seeing the world for how it really is." Answer: My 3 cats are food obsessed also - other than Salsa and onions, I think they would eat just about anything they could steal from us. They get a certain amount of dry kibble and I break it down into 3 meals a day. They are all pretty good, they follow me in the laundry room and just meow and meow until each one get their portion - no fighting with one another and they each wait their turn. However, when I give them wet food, I put them all in the laundry room and close the door and prepare it in the kitchen, otherwise they are all over the counter and me trying to eat it out of the can.
