Misty gone bizerk...
Question: Last night, Misty was playing with her favorite toy : a real fur dangler with a bell that she tore of her kitty fishing pole. Well, she likes to run aruond the house with it in her mouth...no biggy, just a fav toy right? Well last night she started growling at the dogs when they got near it, and I thought she was just protecting her stuff. Then, she growled at me! I was trying to catch her so I could go to bed and she started growling! This made me mad and I flicked her nose... @@$$ I held her in my lap a few seconds to calm her down, then let her down with her toy. She begain playing with it like normal again, but then she just started growling for no reason! She has one of those funky sounding Siamese growls, kind sounds like moaning, growling, and meowing all mixed it. My question is this : What did she growl like that? I mean, the thing isn't even real, it's a toy! Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a function - Garrison Keiller >>>>) Answer: My cat does the same thing! It isn't even a cat toy, it is a small stuffed animal. The first time she did it, I freaked. She stands above it and growls, although she isn't usually to protective of it, but especially at night, she carries it upstairs in the bedroom in her teeth, drops it and growls while standing above it. At first I would take it away, scared that she was getting abnormaly attached, but now I just let her play with it. Aimee Owner of a pretty kitty Answer: My cats growl when they're playing with their toy mice. Especially Xiaofeng - he clutches that thing and hisses and growls like his life depended on it. When he's tired of playing he leaves the toy and crawls in my lap. I think it's healthy; since they can't go outside and hunt I'm glad this makes them happy. Remember, cats are predators, and pretty fierce ones at that. Some cats have the 'urge' to hunt more than others. Since I discovered hunting and predator play makes Xiao so happy, I actually give him more toys to play with to get the energy out of his system. So if I were you I wouldn't worry about it unless your kitty starts being aggressive when she's not playing with the toy! Also, about the funny sounds - Xiao is half Siamese, so he's got that vocal capability as well. Occasionally a sound will come out of him that's like an alien possessed him! Again, it's just part of what makes him what he is ... She loves it! Of course, those early morning play sessions with it are less than pleasant....
