Ripley went back to his foster mom...
Question: So I decided that enough was enough. Squirt and Dizzy were miserable with Ripley's random attacks and the dominance issues. I returned him to his foster mom last night, and she is going to find another home for him. I feel bad, but I know it is the best thing for everyone. We tried it for 3.5 months and it just wasn't getting any better...worse, actually! I must say that the house is very calm right now with just the three cats who get along well...whew. Karie and crew Answer: Sometimes the best thing for everyone is also the hardest. Answer: I've had a few cats in my time of fostering that were returned to me as well... sometimes it just doesn't work out. Don't feel bad.. I'm sure Ripley will find another wonderful home. Perhaps he should be in a one cat family, or only have kittens introduced to him... he would then perceive them as no threat. "Saving one animal won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one animal." Answer: Janice, Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I do think that he really needs another cat to play with...he is definitely NOT a people cat, but he does need younger cats, not older cats. I advised his foster mom on his behavior, but she kind of blew his behavior off as being a young male cat's behavior and nothing more. Well, I have been through 3 young male kittens growing up into adults, and they did not act like Ripley. I just hope she takes some of what I said into consideration when placing him, so he does not get returned again. He is a beautiful siamese/snowshoe mix, so he should get adopted very quickly! I know there were 4 other applicants for him when I applied. Ironically, my house was chosen as the best place for him because he would have other male cats to play with...although he only really "played" with my girl kitten.
