Limping
Question: My kittie was on her cat tree the other day. I am not exactly sure what happened, I just saw the tail end of it, but I heard a noise and she had fallen I guess coming down and was hanging on the middle part trying to get back up. I ran over to her, but she had already scrambled to the middle platform before i could get to her. She made a noise when she fell, but I could not tell if it was a "that scared me" noise or a "I got hurt" noise. She held up her left paw (which is the one she had caught herself with on the cat tree) like it was hurt. I went over a looked at it and it looked ok and then right away she started walking on it and running up the stairs and stuff, so I assumed it just scared her. This was on Thursday. Since then she has been walking on it fine. Until today. Now she is hobbling around and won't put pressure on it. I softly pressed the pads on that foot and she didn't cry or anything and my hubby checked each nail to make sure none had been ripped out when she caught herself and they were all there. I was looking on the cat tree and I found where it looked like a stripped part of a nail, but it looked like the ones I find when she uses her tree scratching post, but it was a little bigger. What do you think? And don't worry, I have been thinking vet, vet, vet all night. Answer: my only guess is she broke a nail, and maybe it's troubling that one toe, but you said he checked all the nails. maybe you should check them again, maybe it's something that didn't show up right away. Tim Answer: Her paw seems ok but when I picked her up a little while ago she sort of made a squealing noise like it hurt, so the vet it is going to be. It seems it may hurt her higher than the paw so now I am worried about her joints. I don't see how it would be broken so I don't think that is it but you never know. I am just worried it may have pulled her joint out of socket or something. This one is going to have to be a vet situation. She did manage to show up for her nightly treat downstairs though. A very determined kitty for her treats. Answer: Sounds like a sprain. My dog did this a few times from getting over excited and jumping from the couch (to look out the window) and then to the door and then the couch again to watch our mailman. She'd get so excited that she'd jump down hard and occasionally sprain her leg. They'd give her some antinflammatory meds and send us on our way. Answer: We took her to the vet and she had some swelling in her upper shoulder but that was about it. she is starting to put more pressure on it so I can tell she is feeling a bit better. Answer: That's great...hopefully in a few days she'll be good as new. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
