Cat With A Cold/Flu ?? ?? ??

Question:
Hello,
My nine month old Himalayan Cat seems to be having some cold symptoms. He has: watery eyes(more than usual), he is sneezing, he makes a snorting sound a lot, he was a definite decreased energy level. He's been sleeping quite a bit. Now is this somthing that I should be concerned about? Will it go away? Will it require some sort of treatment. My cat just came off medication for his ears.
Thank you.
Answer:
If it was just sneezing or a little more snuffling than usual, it would not need treatment. However, with the decreased energy and appetite, it warrants a trip to the vet.
Cheers,

Answer:
he is still eating and drinking, actually he's been eating quite a bit. His energy level seems to be better, he is playing and seems fine. I dont think he is at 100% but i feel that its a definite improvment. I will continue to monitor his condition and if it worsens then I will make an appointment with the vet.
Thank you Dr. Jean
Answer:
My Siamese got a cold when he was about 6 months old. He just slept all day, ate little and sneezed CONSTANTLY. I just felt SO bad for him. I took him to the vet, and the vet put him on antibiotics which cleared it right up! Poor little guy, don't you hate how helpless you feel when they are sick?
There really is nothing better than a weekend!
Answer:
My 10-12 week old little guy is having the same problem. He's congested, sneezing, and his eyes are a little irritated. He's very lethargic, he will only play a little. His apetite and thirst are rather healthy however.
The vet said he had a URI. He's been on antibiotics since Monday. Clavamox. So far he does not seem to be improving. He has been getting diarrhea since starting the antibiotic and today there was a bit of blood in it.
The vet said it would take 4-7 days for him to get well... So that leaves him 2 to 5 days. I suppose he's very young so it's taking him a bit more to recover. I'm really worried about him and it's got me rather depressed.
I have been giving him lysene, ester-c, a feline multivitamin, and a little Missing Link superfood. I hope it's helping him.

my 10 month old calico is sneezing constantly ( and she'll do it right in front of my face too..lol). She doesn't seem to be any less energetic. However I discover a patch on her front leg. It's a hairless patch with dry flaky skin. Is that a red flag for me to bring her to the vet? thanks.
Answer:
Now my older cat is sneezing and has conjunctivitis with excessive tearing. The vet found a scratch on his left eye. Said most of the tearing is from the scratch. He probaby got it from playing with the little guy.
One of them vomited up some food just now... but I don't know which one.
I've noticed the younger one is drinking a large amount of water....

Answer:
My other cat had all the sneezing and watery eyes and ear problems...I was told it was chlamidia (sp?). Also she started vomiting after one of her shots can't remember which one I think it might have been rabies shot, and the vet didn't tell me that that is a sign of her having a reaction to it, they didn't catch it and we had to put her down. I also started thinking about it a few months after she passed....But they told me about the reaction when I got my rabies for my cat that I have now....thats when I thought hmmm...thats what happened to angel......

Answer:
I'm starting to think he does have chlamydia. The infection is spreading to his other eye, and he has some typical upper respitory infection signs. Basically... every single clinical sign of feline chlamydia. He doesn't have any ear problems that I can see.
The vet prescribed Gentamicin. I don't know how effective it has been.... his eyes tear so much that the stuff is practically washed out in a minute or so.

Thats exactly what happened to angel's eyes, every time I'd go to the crappy vet they'd say...its just conjunctivitis...I spent about $300 just in vet trips and medicines in 1 1/2 months! She'd get medicines for something it'd clear up during the meds then after...right back to where we started...so I gave up and went to my vet that my family has used for about 15 years or more.
