Feeding Kitten Food to Adults???
Question: Had any of you ever had a situation where you had to feed kitten food to adults??? My two boys are almost a year old. My three little kittens are only two months old!!! They do everything together, including eating, and they are so inseparable!!! I would like to know if feeding kitten food to adults actually make them fat. I know that kitten food contains more fat but I thought cats metabolize fats differently than humans. Any help would be greatly appreciated Married for one year. Three male cats. Three female cats. Answer: Are you able to feed them in separate rooms with closed doors where you live? Answer: Nope, my schedule is crazy. I pretty much have to free-feed. Married for one year. Three male cats. Three female cats. Answer: Are you able to purchase All Life Stages food? (thanks, ForJazz) Support a college student and beautify your home! http://emchelle.etsy.com Answer: I thought kitten food is all life stages food. ????? ????? Married for one year. Three male cats. Three female cats. Answer: Just look on the package somewhere, it should say AAFCO Certified for All Life Stages. Otherwise, it will indicate if it is for kittens or adults (thanks, ForJazz) Support a college student and beautify your home! http://emchelle.etsy.com Answer: On kitten food, the aafco statement will virtually always say its appropriate for all life stages, even when the bag is labeled kitten food. Keep in mind though this just means it meets minimum requirements for all life stages in areas such as minimum protien, minimum fat, minimum nutrients, etc. That doesnt mean it is a good choice for adults, since some kitten foods will be too high in protien and fat for adults. That being said, it is a common thought that Kitten food can lead to obesity in adult cats. Answer: Had anybody on this forum actually fed kitten food to adults??? I can't find any information on this subject on the internet. I tried for hours and hours and hours. My head hurts. Sure kitten food is higher in protein in fat than adult foods, but Innova Evo has 50% protein and 22% fat, way higher than any kitten food I had ever seen Nutro MaxCat Gourmet Classics kitten food in Roasted Chicken has 34% protein and 20% fat. Married for one year. Three male cats. Three female cats. Answer: 50% protein? OMG I have on occasion given kitten food to adults in the hospital to encourage anorexics to eat, but never known a cat fed on kitten food long term. Kitten food is higher in protein, calcium & fat. Thanks catlover_2004 Answer: Poor baby...I hope he is feeling better. Married for one year. Three male cats. Three female cats. Answer: My advice is to feed all 4 cats kitten food for 4 more months and then at that time (when the youngest will be 6 months old and the oldest will only be 16 months old) gradually switch them all over to adult food. And yes, I have fed an adult kitten food--its not a big deal, the adult ones might gain an extra pound or two--make sure you are using a premium kitten food. The Original Male Kitten. Answer: I have on several occaisions thought about feeding Gaylord kitten food, because he has always been rail thin....he could stand to gain a few pounds. I never did though, because i was always afraid it would somehow not be good for him because of the high protein content...would it hurt his kidneys????? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
