Our cats won't come near Whiskas

Question:
Any explanation why our cats sniffed at cat food from Whiskas? They sniffed at it, then started scratching around the bowl and tried to bury it as if it was .........................
In the end, it was back to the daily cooked fish ... oh that smell in the morning!
Anyone else had similar experience with Whiskas. The cat breeder said that it was something to do with using wheat. I have no clue as I just like cats but have no clue about cats, cat foods or behavioural issues.

Apologies moderator. Think this should have gone in another section. Saw it too late. Still finding my way around your great site.

Answer:
I think it fits OK in behavior, but I'll move it to Health & Nutrition anyway.
Answer:
Maybe they knew artificial colors and preservatives when they smelled them

yes, they are smart kitties!!
Answer:
*cough cough* My cats eat whiskers because it is so much harder to find high quality wet food in the UK than it is in the US. And, yes, they like it! I thought cats covered their food once they had finished so as to cover their scent, like they would in the wild...not because they are as snobby about cat food as some people seem to be

Answer:
I think Whisk as and Whisk ers are two different foods, though, correct?
And if feeding my cats high-quality food is snobby, well then please pass the Grey Pou- pon

Sounds like you've got smart cats!!

Answer:
Have you tried Liquivite? Think that's a wet food. The breeder that I designed the website for recommends it. Thought it was for special health occasions only really.
My cats eat better than I do!!! Cooked fish, fillet steak, prawns, ham, chicken and dry foods.
Never tried wet food.

Our cats hated Whiskas few years ago, but lately I can't give them anything else - they're crazy about it.
Maybe they changed it.

Actually, the newer pouches that they came up are the WORST!!! My cats just smell them and go away.
I can ALWAYS taste preservatives, articial flavorings, hydrogenated soybean oil, and artificial sweetners myself. Sometimes I can taste the artificial colorings. Somehow all of those artificial stuff taste quite bitter to me (I guess that is because of genetics). My cats have a much keener sense of taste than me so I am pretty sure they can taste those things too.

Answer:
Our old cat , Tinker, would only eat Whiskas.
We tried Jimmy with Whiskas, but he wouldn't touch it. He will only eat Felix - I think that was what he was brought up on, so that's all he likes now. I think that's fairly good - its made by Purina. Anyway, its all he will eat (in terms of wet food - he'll eat any kind of dry)
But he always hated the duck flavour, so I would have to get variety packs that didn't inlcude duck. Recently, Partner bought him some duck flavour by mistake, and guess what - he loves it now!
So you never know with cats, I think their tastes can be quite changeable.
