Indoor cat food

Question:
Has anyone seen that commercial for Purina Cat Chow Indoor Cat Formula? I know Purina is a big for many on this forum but I had to laugh when I heard the commercial. And correct me if I am wrong, but did that lady say "packed with grains and plant fibers"? Last I checked, cats were primarily meat eaters and grains will just pack on the weight, even more so for an indoor cat! I did read one review where it supposedly did help an overweight cat lose some weight. But I dunno, I can't get excited about feeding my cat grains and plants. And I bet he wouldn't want me to give him that either.
I've been feeding my cat Iams weight control (I know, another company) but he just seems hungry all the time and not losing any weight, even with a wet/dry diet. I think he's at 14 lbs. Can't seem to get him down any. 1/2 cup is starving him. 3/4 cup is what he gets broken up into 3 meals but still seems hungry after a couple hours.
The vet said to increase his activity since if he got to 12lbs he'd be at his ideal weight for his size. But we're talking cats, here. If they want to lay around and nonchalantly swat after a few minutes instead of continuing to chase and jump and hunt, what am I to do?
What has anyone else done to help an indoor kitty lose some excess weight?
Answer:
SOme cats are big.. Ragdolls can get close to 30 pounds.. Hershey's dad and mom was 28 pounds. I see nothing wrong with a 12 pound cat

Whoa! That's some BIG cats!
Answer:
Though there's nothing inherently wrong with a 12 pound cat, a 12-pound cat whose ideal weight is 8 pounds is obese and in danger of several complications (diabetes, joint problems, greater risk of hepatic lipidosis, etc)...so weight alone is no guide at all to cat health.
You may see more weight-loss results if you either remove or reduce the dry food to almost nothing. Dry weight-control food is pretty notorious for causing weight gain in some cats. I moved Assumpta to all-canned and started giving her about 1/2 Tbsp of (non-diet) dry at bedtime as a treat, and when I didn't see results for a while, Dr. Jean suggested that even that small amount of dry/carbs could be setting up an insulin response that was impeding weight loss. Just a thought, might be worth trying. Oh, and Assumpta is not nearly as ravenously hungry on canned food as she was on dry, it seems to last longer for her.
That indoor dry food is a hoot...we tossed a whole bag at the shelter after the cats started pooping in really funny colors from the dyes.

All those wholesome grains and garden greens must be the corn meal for the 1st ingredient and the parsley

I had tried feeding this indoor cat food to my kitties and they really liked it... They didn't gain any noticeable weight, but they snub their nose now at any other dry food and will only eat tuna flavored wet food.
