where's the meow?

Question:
Hello, I'm new to this. I have a question. I have a female cat that is about two years old. She is usually a very vocal cat. Lately she has been quiet or has a very weak meow. Her meows are usually very loud. Has anybody else have or had this problem? Thank You
Answer:
These other threads might be helpful....they are about kitties with lost/quiet voices
Does your kitty appear to have a cold? Or is she acting any differently?
One of mine, Malcolm, has lost his voice twice, his meows got very quiet and sounded a bit scratchy. With him it was related to a cold, which he is prone too, as he is a shelter rescued cat.

Thank You, I appreciate those links. I looked at them and it does look like my cats may have a cold. She may have got the cold from another cat in the neighboorhood or at the vet where I just got done boarding her. For how we got her, me and my husband moved in to are home and she was a stray cat that was introduced to us by are other stray cat that we have adopted. I loved the way she looked and was shy so I just started to feed her. That has been about two yrs. I don't know much about cats (only what I have read). Will the cold just go away or do I need to take her to my vet?
Answer:
If it gets worse or if it doesn't go away within 10 days from onset, see a vet. Getting worse would be eye inflammation or discharge from eyes or nose, difficulty breathing, lethargy, loss of appetite, or other signs your cat is ill. Most cat colds will clear up, but secondary infections can occur and they can be serious. Hope your kitty's better soon.

I have just looked at my cat and her eys look ok. There is no type of discarge from her eys but her voice is know not their or just a sad little one. I hope that she can recover from this. The odd thing about this problem is that fact that she does seem to be full of energy. Is this part of the cold cycle or should I get her into the vet asap?
Answer:
Hmmmm well as long as she is eating and drinking and acting normally and doesn't have nasal or eye discharge you can just let the cold run its course.
My big guy Malcolm got colds quite often in the first year we had him and I only had to take him to get eye drops once. He has lost his meow twice, sounded like he had a sore throat, it was a bit scratchy, but it went away quickly.
But for her meow maybe you could call your vet and ske him/her about it if her voice doesn't get back to normal soon? See if they think she needs to come in for it, or if it could be from a cold??
Answer:
It has been about six days with the low meow. I have looked at the cat and noted that she had gotten into some baby power. I think that she was having a reaction to the power. I washed her and called the vet and he said that it sould be getting better if not please bring her in on friday. She is getting better. Her food intake is going back up and she is drinking water like never before. Thank you so much for you thoughts for my cat.
Answer:
Glad to hear you might know what the problem is, and that she is getting better!
