Why isn't my puddy in heat yet??!
Question: Hey people, I was just wondering, when heat season starts....if a puddy is like over 6 months or something, they should go into heat if they haven't been spayed yet right? My sister's cat Kitty went into heat the first time last February and she was 8 months old, then we had her spayed around August. I have a kitten (Pixie) myself now, she's 8 months old, and hasn't gone into heat yet?! Is this normal?! When I got her at the petshop, they told me at first that she had been spayed and everything, but then when I asked again later, they said she hasn't...I can't see any scar on her tummy or anything (but then again, Kitty has no scar left over from when she was spayed). Also, do most cats get kinda calmer and get a bigger apetite and put on some weight after being spayed? Pixie is still very hyper and although she has a big apetite, she isn't any bigger than she should be at her age! Is there any way to tell if a cat has been spayed or not? If not, I'll take her to a vet and ask if they can take a look and let me know! Thanks! Mooooopsey! Answer: I think the vets get pretty good at being able to tell. They will shave the onderbelly and look for the spay incision. Answer: It's better for the cat if she's spayed before she goes into heat. And at that age, she's overdue. If you're not sure if she's already been spayed, just advise the veterinary surgeon, so they can look for a scar after her tummy has been shaved. Then they won't need to do it. Answer: Thanks! I'll get her checked by a vet pretty soon! If she hasn't been spayed yet, is it normal for a puddy to be overdue with heat and stuff? Moopsey! Answer: Usually, a cat comes in heat between 6 and 7 months the first time. I would ask the vet, as the others have suggested. He'll know. Good luck! Btw....another quick question....when a cat goes into heat.....do they all act the same way? Or differently? I *think* that Pixie went into heat yesterday! She's been yowling like Kitty did when she was on heat, she's been REALLY loving and sensitive to touch, rolling around on the floor and rubbing herself against stuff....the only thing she hasn't done is the treading thing! Am I right in guessing this is her on heat?! Mandy Answer: That's exactly what happens. Be sure to keep her isolated until she gets spayed. You'd be surprised at how resourceful Tom cats can be when they know there's female in heat. Maybe earmuffs will come in handy 'til she's able to get spayed! And yeah she's an indoor cat anyway so there's no worries of any toms being around Haha when Kitty was in heat last year, we had this one ginger tom sitting on our doorstep every day, I daresay he'll be back now that Pixie is yowling away! Answer: Just to make sure, she will soon be putting her backside up in the air and cleaning her privates quite a bit. I have found that scratching her back at the point where her tail meets her body helps to calm down a female in heat. She's had her bottom up in the air when I stroke her, and has been cleaning herself down there tooons today! When I scratch her back at the point where her tail meets her body, she goes all sweet and rolls onto her back and wants her tummy tickled...its cute coz she does that a lot anyway, but now its all extra! awwwwwww She'll be spayed soon though, I'm sending off for the voucher to get it done for free so as soon as I receive that, it's off to the vets! Answer: How beautiful her markings are! Jeanie http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/ A dog, I have always said, is prose; a cat is a poem. ~JB Answer: HEHE Thanks! I love her little pink nose! Answer: *hugs lil Pixie* heheheeeeeee Don't you just love her?! Cats are a girls best friend! =^-^= Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
