Can hairballs be the cause of all this?

Question:
1. Letting a hairball go, and then vomiting food up later.
2. Eating less.
3. Vomiting and hacking without hair.
4. Doing all this for three-four days.
5. Stopping suddenly after leaving a present for mom to clean up when she got home.
I think so, but I just want to make sure I wasn't ignoring a bigger problem.
Also, what is a great hairball remedy. Petroleum jelly doesn't seem to work so well.

Answer:
I'd be tempted to get him checked over. Even if it is just hairballs he may be a lil dehydrated if its been going on a few days.

Are you feeding your cat dry or wet food ? My cat had frequent hairballs and they have all but disappeared by switching from dry to Wellness canned food. I'm so happy and so is she !
When my cat had hairballs she would always be starving after vomiting one up. She wanted to eat right away. I don't ever remember her having them 3 -4 days in a row. It might have been twice in one day and then the next week or so.
Answer:
Well, I think he might have had a hairball he just couldn't get up. He's perfectly fine now, eating and such.
He gets Eagle Pack canned food because he has UTI too. He left me a hairball yesterday for me when I got home from work and he didn't vomit or leave another at all last night or this morning. If there's more this afternoon, he's going to the vet.
He's eating now, when he wasn't eating much before. I dunno. He's strange. *shrug*

Answer:
Thats so cute - "He left me a hairball". Not so fun to clean up. My cat would go and get me and bring me back to the scene and sit there and watch me clean it up. For some reason I always thought that was cute. She likes everything clean. But I think everything she does is cute! Hopefully your guy just had a stubborn hairball that was clogging him and he is fine now. Just keep an eye on him like you said. And if still concerned take him to the vet just to be on the safe side.

YES, hairballs can cause all of this.
High quality non-irritating food and DAILY brushing are the best remedies. When it comes to brushing, never miss a day!
Generally, cats who spend a great deal of time grooming themselves have more hairballs than those that don't take grooming all that seriously.
You can get a good commercial hairball remedy from any pet supply store, but be sure to give it 2 hours before or after a meal because these things interfere with nutrient absorption.

Hmmmm....strange that Scotty would have that many troubles with hairballs. He's a DSH tabby, right?
A couple other different "remedies" I've seen mentioned are olive oil and cat grass.
And even though he's a short-hair, if he sheds a lot, he needs regular brushing.

Answer:
Purina one dry for hairballs seems to work well for Angel. We rarely have a hairball problem.
I notice that many of you use a food called Wellness. I think I will check into it myself.
