What, exactly, does "meal" mean? As in chicken meal, duck meal etc.

Basically it means the fat and water has been cooked out of it.

It also typically will be ALOT higher in protein than the normal "meat" (ie duck meal versus duck). Meat is weighted down by water, meal is not. So the protein and nutrient content will normally be significantly higher in meal than meat. I prefer meal over meat for my two cats.
