More feeding questions
Question: Hey guys. Well, this past week I was off from work and let me tell you... it h as been a horrendous vacation. It started off with the news that my dog, Kelsey, who I have had since I was 12 years old, died on Saturday. She was 15 years old. For the first 11 years of her life, I lived with my parents of course... and I watched her grow from a wild puppy to a gentle dog. These last 4 years she has been living in New Jersey where my parents retired to. I am heartbroken over her passing. I missed saying goodbye to her... I was planning on visiting my parents that Sunday... and she passed on Saturday. So like I said... it has been a very sad vacation. I miss her so much. As for Andie... the good news that came from the past 2 weeks is that I was fianlly able to get her to eat EVO dry and that is what she is eating now. It was a gradual switch... but she seems to like it. I was giving her Wellness canned twice a day too, with a slippery elm tablet crushed into it and the small dosage of pepcid that she is apparently supposed to take. Well... she has been giving me trouble... totally started ignoring the canned food and I ended up having to throw it out all the time with all the vitamins and meds being wasted too. So, since last Sunday night, I have just been feeding her EVO dry, with no canned since I didnt want to force her anymore. I wanted to see how she'd do without the pepcid, and I havent been able to get her to take the slippery elm chewables without luck (putting it in her canned food was easy). Aside from a few mushy poops (not diarrhea... just softer than normal) she's been great. But the past few days she keeps walking to her dish and looking confused as if to say "where's all that canned stuff I've been eating for 7 years???" So tonight, out of curiousity, I let her taste a bit of Wellness Turkey and Salmon off my finger. She licked it right up as if it was the greatest thing she's ever tasted. So NOW... my question is... do I try her on it again twice a day with the meds in it? Maybe she just needed to realize how much she did like the canned. Since her poop is a bit soft.. I am afraid of getting her tummy all messed up. It has been a week since she's had the canned. When I do give it to her it's about 1/2 a can a day... split up into two servings morning and night. Any advice on what I should do next? Last night she did regurgitate some dry up minutes after eating a bit.. but she was also running around like a lunatic playing and bouncing on my house guests prior to eating the food... so I wasnt too worried. Any help would be great Thanks to Doddlebug for my avatar, signature and for turning Andie into a virtual princess! Answer: you could always try offering her small amounts of canned food and increasing little by little. I'd also try to add in the medications one at a time for a while. It may be that it got a bit much and the flavor was affected more than she was willing to deal with. glad to hear she's doing well though! Jessie "There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast." Answer: Yes, go back to the canned stuff, just figure out another way to give the medicine, if thats what she's been smelling in it. Sorry about Kelsey, really hope you were able to have enough quality time with her, cause that's what counts to them and us. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
