Meet Boots
Question: Cat Forum, meet Boots... Boots, meet the Cat Forum! My girlfriend and I are first time cat owners (and first time cat ownees, too), so I thought I'd do some research on the internet... and that's what led me to you guys - who are great, if I may say so. Lots of great knowledge pooled together here, and lots of great people! (Hi from myself and Cat - my girlfriend!) Here you can see why her name is "Boots". She's got boots and mittens! Anyway, this is boots, a ~3 year old female adopted from a second chance animal adoption. Pretty quiet in temperament - until she gets ahold of toys that interest (or frustrate?) her, or until I try to keep her still to give her a wet willy with a cotton swab soaked in ear wax dissolvant. (That one really reminds me of the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland... Cute but kind of creepy, too!) Parting quesion: What is she? A "Torby & White" or a "Calico"? Answer: How about a Tabico? I dunno, but i will say that she is beautiful and adorable and i wanna luve her and squueeze her and kiss the top ofe her cute little head. shes definatly my type of cat! Sophie, China, Annie and Dim Sum say MEOW! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Cait Thank you ForJazz!!!!! Answer: Cute Boots! Her body looks a lot like my Callie did....facial markings are different though. But Callie had those beautiful green eyes too. Info on tortoiseshell and calico... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tortoiseshell_cat Onyx & Callie May forever in my heart. Answer: Thanks for the kind words, Willow771 and doodlebug! Until looking into adoption and seeing some of the cats, I'd never seen a cat with the markings (or colors) of Boots... they're just so beautiful! Being on the Cat Forums though, I see it's not actually so uncommon. Unfortunately I can't access wikipedia from China... it's been on and off for the past few months... mostly off. It's censored primarily, I think, for material on the Tiananmen Square incident, Taiwan, and probably more... Anyway, I've done a little reading elsewhere, and it seems as though technically, Boots could be either (Calico or a Torby+White). Please correct me if I'm wrong! Answer: The description "tortoiseshell" (also called "calimanco" or "clouded tiger" in North America) is typically reserved for cats with brindled coats that have little or no white markings, while those that are white with orange and black patches are described as calico (in the United States) or tortoiseshell-and-white (in the UK). Calicos with a tabby pattern are also known as caliby or more commonly torbie. Tortoiseshells and calicos are not specific breeds of cat. The tortoiseshell markings appear in many different breeds. Callie was brindle (as is Boots) but she had a lot of white (even more than boots...so I called her a calico (and hence her name). Boots really doesn't have a tabby pattern, so I would say Tor bie w/white doesn't apply. I would say she's a calico or a Tor tie w/white. That's my opinion...maybe others think differently Onyx & Callie May forever in my heart. Answer: leirda, your cat is very nice! Answer: Beautiful, exquisite eyes!
