Question about different kinds of breeds...
Question: OK, so you have your siamese and your maine coon, different breeds of cats like different breeds of dogs... but what about cats like a tabby, a tortoise shell, a calico... are those specific breeds of cats, or are they just kinda like mixed breed street cats that we gave names to to describe? What about a plain black cat and a plain white cat? Are those a specific breed? I know nothing about any of this... sorry if i sound stupid... LOL! Thanks for the siggy Des! Medium length for would be Domestic Medium Hair, and long fur would be Domestic Long Hair. Tortoiseshell, tabby and all of those are color patterns can be found on certain purebred cats too. Of course you won't see a purebred siamese with tortoiseshell color patten, but you could see a Maine Coone or a Persian with that color scheme. Does that help? ~RB~ Answer: Yeah, OK, that's cool. I was reading too that there were two different kinds of tabby cats (like patterns) how do i know which one mine is? Thanks for the siggy Des! I have identified Scotty as a mackeral tabby. It was the part about the double row of buttons on the belly that convinced me. Jade, Scotty, and Oscar Answer: Yeah, i don't know, I thought mine was a Mackrel too, but the other day when I had him upside down, there was only one row... anyone know a site with good pictures to show the difference? Thanks for the siggy Des! Go visit my website! http://www.stephandgeoff.wedquarters.com Answer: Here, I got a somewhat good pic of his markins... i thought he was a Makerel cause of the stripes on the side, and the rings around his legs and tail... but he only had one row of vest buttons i think, and he does have those 3 stripes running from his head to butt, and he has 2 small neckaces... Anyone have any ideas what pattern my baby has? Is it possible to be of a mixed pattern? Thanks for the siggy Des! Go visit my website! http://www.stephandgeoff.wedquarters.com Answer: I couldn't be 100% sure, but the site says a classic tabby has a single row whereas the mackerel has a double row. Jade, Scotty, and Oscar Answer: Yeah, but the classic tabby has whorled markings, not stripes I'm not entirely sure what Pharoah would be... (thanks, ForJazz) Keeper of The Domestic Zoo Answer: Hey thats a cool site. So I guess my Stix would be a patched tabby? He is a grey tabby with white feet, tummy, chin, and chest and has cream colored areas on his face, back legs, and tummy. I'll just call him a "swirly". lol. Answer: Pharoah is a mackeral tabby. Disregard the tummy buttons -- that is basically if you have a purebred cat. Not all tabbies have perfect buttons or the EXACT number of stripes. The side view is a dead giveaway. Swirls = classic, Stripes = mackeral, even if they are broken stripes, Spots = spotted, Uniform = ticked. Stix is patched? I didn't know he had cream spots -- from all his pictures he looks like a blue tabby with white! Mia is a patched tabby, or torbie, as well. Do you have any good pictures of the cream patches? Julie Answer: I was going to ask about patched tabbies. Steph is a grey tabby with white, but she's been developing more and more orange "spots" on her back and sides. Not very uniform I'll try to get some pics later.... (thanks, ForJazz) Keeper of The Domestic Zoo Answer: That's strange for a cat to "develop" orange patches -- usually they'd be visable around the time when Miko's coat started to develop. It shouldn't take longer for patched tabbies, I don't think. Yeah, get some pictures, me wanna see! Julie Answer: I will, after I get out of work today. It's really, really strange, they've just started coming in the past few weeks, I think there's two or three of them now, about the size of a dime. I just think it's adorable that both the girls have some of their mommy's orange in them She also has an orange tinge to the white fur on her front legs. I don't know how well the camera will capture that, but while the rest of her white (chin, belly) is really white, her legs are this orangy-creamy color. Such a strange kitty... (thanks, ForJazz) Keeper of The Domestic Zoo Answer: Yeah, it seems that pharoah is always changing colours too... lots more brownish colour is comming in... Thanks for the siggy Des!
