Tuppence, Our Surgery Cat

Question:
Introducing the lovely Tuppence, who lives at our surgery. She is around 13 years old, and has lived at the surgery for almost 10 years (longer than most of the staff have been there!) She started out as a young semi-feral who used to come to the back door for food (hee hee - a feral who took herself to the vets!) As she grew more confident and friendly, she started spending days outside and the nights or bad weather in our laundry room, a small extension out the back of the building. She was free to come and go as she pleased, and also had an outdoor 'kennel' built to shelter her from the wind if she wanted to spend time outside. As she aged and got to know the nurses, she gradully moved further into the building, much to the distaste of our indoor surgery cat, Lucy, who has since gone to another home (her choice - different story!). Now, and for the past few years, she lives in our staff room and nurses offices upstairs above the surgery. There is a balcony for her on sunny days. She is not semi-feral anymore, though she will give you the odd nip and is not the easiest girl in the world to medicate or restrain! She has had and gotten through renal disease, hyperthyroidism, and skin cancer. She is now deaf, senile but utterly adorable and full of character. All the girls adore her, and she loves us girls. She waits patiently for pieces of meat & fish at lunchtimes, and thoroughly lives it up ruling the roost in the staff rooms.
