Question:
I currently use Cell-Sorb Plus bedding in all my chinnie cages. It is awesome bedding but every 2 months (sometimes less) I spend $74 for 2-, 40 pound bags including shipping. Because I am not working I would like to stretch out my supply a little longer. Besides kiln dried pine or aspen, what other safe bedding is there? I was thinking of mixing a bit of Carefresh with the Cell Sorb but didn't care for it because it would get soggy when it got wet. I was looking at Kaytee Soft Sorbent bedding. Quite a few rattie and gp owners approve of it.
Thoughts? Advice?

What about using pine with Cell-Sorb mixed in? As you already know, I use pine for the floor of the cage and then Cell-Sorb in the litterpans. It is quite a bit cheaper that way.

Candice, you use kiln dried pine? I guess I could layer the bottom with pine and put the Cell Sorb on top. My chinnies don't use a litterbox. They pretty much go on the bedding but in various areas.

Yep, I've been using kiln dried pine for years. Although, the gilrs don't even use it...they always pee in their litterbox. The boys don't always go in the litterbox but most of the time they do.

Pam, PetSmart has 8 qt bags for $6.99. I can buy a 20 pound bag at Leith Petwerks for $21.39. The thing that kills me is the shipping.

I very well could be wrong.. but wouldnt buying 3 of the small bags put you ahead of the game... you wouldnt have to pay for shipping.. and if the 20lb bag is 28 quarts... then 3 - 8 quart bags would be 24 quarts.. so almost a 20 pound bag.... and you would pay about the same amount... minus the shipping?!?!?!?!

Pam, that may just work. I have to make sure PetSmart has that many bags in stock. Usually they have only a few in stock. I could always ask them to special order it for me.
