2 More Young Offenders...

Question:
... have been minimally charged after shotting a cat w/ a bb gun & then beating her to death w/ a baseball bat (locally).
I cannot STAND this.
PLEASE keep your cats indoors, all pets in fact. You never know where the psychos are.

Answer:
being the animal lover that I am.. I dont understand how some people can be so cruel!!!

Answer:
Minimally charged? Doesn't the judicial system realize when people kill animals there is also a high potential for that carrying over into humans as well? Not that I don't care what happened to the cat of course! I know this sounds bad but those two boys need to be beaten to death for what they did to that cat! People like that don't need to be on this earth.

Answer:
Yeah, in 10 years or so the police will catch them again-but as serial killers or something. This is so sad.

Answer:

Answer:
People are sick and twisted.
They should be beaten in the same manner as the cat. Not killed. But enough where they finally know what the word "discipline" means. If they can kill without a thought, they are to old to be spanked and old enough for a beating.
See? This is what happens when you don't spank your kids.

Answer:
I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's a shame the laws don't consider an animal's life as important as a human's.

Answer:
Di, what is your perspective as to why they don't? I have been trying to figure this out and can't come up with a valid answer.

Answer:
Gosh Denise, I could write a 20 page paper on this, lol!
There are several theories that I've studied and found interesting. One is the Bible as an influence on how some societies treat animals and the planet. In Genesis (I'm a bit rusty, haven't been to Cathochism in a while), the Bible is interpreted to say that man has dominion over all plants and animals. That he is free to use and abuse them as he pleases since he's put in charge of them by God.
**I'm not using exact wording because I did not consult any sources, this is purely from my memory so feel free to clarify or add anything.
There's also the changing of societies in Europe (I don't want to use the word 'white people' because it is very general and outside of the anthropological field, this term can seriously offend people) where men have continued to distance themselves from animals, again with some influence from Christianity, saying that animals have no souls, cannot enter heaven and are therefore worthless.
I guess that carried down to the colonists who came to North America and the continued changing of society in North America where human life has become sacred and animal life is expendable. Also with the big cities, people don't even come into contact with animals very often and animals are not a part of their life so they don't even think about it.
My personal opinion is that in general, our society has become very individual and egocentric and only cares about it's own (human beings) to the exclusion of everything else.

Answer:
Di, that is a very enlightening point of view. Isn't it amazing how many people state there is an over abundance of certain animals and they are invading their environment? One of the states here is having a problem with coyotes killing small dogs. The problem is the houses that are being built are invading the coyotes territory! How has this become a "problem"? The coyotes were there first and humans come in and take it over. That fully supports your statement of "our society has become very individual and egocentric and only cares about it's own (human beings) to the exclusion of everything else."
