The dangers of letting Grandparents take kids to pet store
Question: We had agreed the begining of the week to allow Grandparents (hubby's side) to take Brittany in to pick out a new hamster. So they decided to take them this evening. They were going to let the girls pick out a small toy for there animals. Well What do they come back with???? If your thinking NOT a hamster your RIGHT, apparently most of the hamsters there were bitty and the lady wouldnt put her hand in to get any out without a glove (ive been to this store and they do that but just because there chickens lol). Well so inlaws then decided to LOOK AROUND and what do they decided to get, and of course Brittany and Melissa falls in love with??? GUINEA PIGS. Yep you guessed it there are now two female guinea pigs in a small cage in my front room. We had gp's a year or so ago and rehomed the ones we had as it got to overwhelming with the amount and other things going on. Well knowing I had them before and they asked the girls if we still had all the stuff and if they thought mom would be mad (of course I still had all the stuff stored and of course the girls said we wouldnt be mad lol), they tried to call to get approval but hubby's got some major game downloading thats taking hours and tying up the phone lines so instead they went ahead and told the girls if I didnt approve theyd return them and get them a hamster somewhere else. SO like I was going to have to be the bad guy, but inlaws meant well so i just smiled and thanked them told them it was fine and NOW we have two female gp's named Sunflower (a little tiny baby), and Lilly a bigger one, They look related and was told they were in same cage, girls swear there mom and daughter but inlaws said store didnt know. Pictures comming soon, they will be living in Melissa's room, to be away from the rabbits and away from the ferrets. OHY I approved a hamster got two guinea pigs, but there so cute lol. Answer: OH Yes and forgot they offered Christy one as well she said NO she had her hamster (Melissa has had to turn her rat back over to mom as Daisy the rat wont stop bitting) so they bought Melissa and Brittany the gp's and bought a new roll nest for Christy's hamster. Answer: That's awesome! What adorable names too! Do guinea pigs live longer than hamsters? Haha, in-laws are funny. I really can't wait to see pictures. I haven't seen enough guinea pigs as far as I'm concerned. Answer: Gp's life span is like 6 to 8 years. Ill post some pics tomorrow there to nervouse of all the changes to try to get any tonight. They also bought a large bag of food and hay and gave the girls 5 dollars for veggies. This is the first time they have ever offered to get the girls a pet and I was quit shocked of them not comming back with what we talked about but they know me to well to know id be upset lol. Answer: Please make sure that both guinea pigs are the same sex. Petshops are notorious for not having a clue when it comes to sexing critters. Answer: Bridget that was the FIRST thing I checked lol. The good thing is the pet store they went to (I go to alot) and they usually only get females in. But I did check to be extra sure and there both girls. Answer: They are currently in an Marchanio (sp) cage that I had stored but after Sunflowr gets bigger im going to build them a CNC cage im afraid shes to small for one right now, that and dont have any coropolast here. Answer: They're lovely little piggies Answer: Thanks they are sweeties, I forgot how much I missed there little noises they make. There currently mowing down on fresh greens. Answer: Gorgeous pigs!!! But still it is infuriating that the grandparents disrespected your statement that they get *hamsters*. Gp's, as you know, are much more work, expense & committment.
