Work & Pets
Question: I am wondering how people's work life affects their animals & vice versa. For instance, does work keep you from spending enough time w/ your pets? Does your work affect what you feed & when your pets go to the vet? Does your pet resent it when you go to work, or not notice, or ??? I know there is one occasional visitor here (Debbie from Nfld) who takes her chins to work!!! Answer: I've got a pretty steady work schedule and doubt it affects the girls too much. If anything, it gives them the quiet time they need to sleep during the day. I usually give them loving in the morning before I get ready for work then at night they get some more whenever they start to stir. As for feeding, play time, etc. I would say feedings aren't affected at all but playtimes can sometimes be if I'm working late. If I miss a playtime, they just get it the next morning before work so they don't stay mad very long if they had even noticed to start with Answer: My workplace is the problem! That's where I keep getting all these animals from.. Other than that, working there is a bonus b/c I can get pet food @ cost. I can get 2nd hand pet supplies for a small donation. does work keep you from spending enough time w/ your pets? I work 9 or 10 hour days (10 am- 7 pm) so I can spend extra time with the dogs & cats in the morning as well as at night and b/c I get home at 7:45 I don't go to bed until usually 12:30 or 1 am.. so the chinchillas get alot of my attention & playtime b/c I'm awake when they are... Does your pet resent it when you go to work, or not notice, or ??? Pets don't know resentment.. they don't think like humans.. The dogs get a morning walk and then they sit on the bed watching me get ready to leave and then lie down and probably sleep all day.. they are always exited to see me come home though and are ready for their nightly walk. As long as I feed the cats on time and give them belly rubs when they demand it.. I'm in their good books! Answer: As I work out of my own home this is the perfect situation for having pets. I can make my work hours around my pets needs. It's also the best situation when one of my animals needs a vet visit. I can drop everything and take them. It might be more tough on me though if I had to work a full time job. I certainly don't think I would have as many pets as I do if I had to work full time. Answer: I take my chins to work with me and I work and go to school regular hours so I am home every evening Answer: Mike and I both work at home and it was a true blessing when Oliver came into our lives. We brought him home around around 10:00pm and I stayed up all night with him and there were no dire consequences. I actually did vampire hours for about 5 weeks and I couldn't have done that if I had an outside job. I love my kitty cats so much I could never work outside the home again! I would pine for them. Last Monday was Mike's birthday and we went to Disneyland. We were gone for 10 hours and every 45 minutes or so we'd talk about the kitties because we really missed them. Answer: Eh, it's their rutine, so they are used to it. I do not think they resent it as they know no other way of life. Dante knows he goes out in the morning when I get up, then sleeps in the bedroom all day, then when guy gets home he gets let out again. Then one last time before I go to bed, and it starts all over. The cats have a similar rutine where they get fed & loved when I get up, then sleep all day, then terrorize me & Guy when we get home. Then they are fed again before I go to bed and they stay up for a few hours and we hear bangs and crashes. Then they seem to crash themselves. The chins get a quick check in the morning and when we get home. Then when they are awake I spend an hour or so with them before I go to bed. They always seem to know when my days off are too, and get excited as they know I get to spend more time with them. They know no other way of life. Answer: Lol-Sophie is easy to take care of. I feed her in the morning and since she's nocturnal, she doesn't wake up until about 8:30pm-9:00pm. She's a hamster. Answer: I think my schedule works quite nicely with our pets. With the move I now have to leave my house about 40 minutes earlier than I used it. On the week days I leave my house about Noon on the weekends at 11:00 am. So That gives me at least an hour of play time with the bird alone, more if I get up earlier than I usual. At night I get home about 9:30 (if I don't have to stop anywhere) and the chins are just waking up and getting antsy, so I spend anywhere from 2-4 hours with them. Since the chin room is fairly chin proof if there is something I need to get done, The chins are ok to run unsupervised in their room. Though I only do that on the very rare occassion and it's never for more than a couple minutes. Then I spend time with the cats while I'm relaxing. They are pretty self sufficient and dislike to much attention. They keep to each other most of the time. They also get quite a bit of attention during Chin Time and enjoy spending time with the chinnies too. So no, I don't think my work schedule affects the care of my animals one bit. I do not hop from food to food with them, I never have to rush off to get food or supplies because I had to wait for money. As for the vet, Tim and I have a credit card we keep specifically for the animals. Any time we've used it we've been sure to get it payed off immediatly just so we know we'll have it there should we need it again. For us, this works a lot better for many reasons. As for the possibility of resentment. Tim and My schedules just barely cross each other. He works 7 days on 7 days off. During his work week I get home less than an hour after he leaves, and I leave for work 2-3 hours after Tim gets home. He plays with the bird and cuts up his morning fruits and veggies before he goes to bed. And wakes up early enough to play with him for at least an hour before work. My main job is the chins during his work weeks. During his off weeks, he's home almost 24/7 so those weeks the animals are all spoiled with attention. So no, between the two of us I think the animals get more than enough attention and enjoy the breaks in between. Answer: My time works out well with the chins moreso than before. I used to work full time but am now taking a vet assistant course which gives me more time... mostly in the evenings and late afternoons to be with them. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
