Police say Donald Rugg was trying to kill the rodent with a .22-calibre handgun when his girlfriend, got into the line of fire and was hit in the arm.
Cathy Harris is in stable condition in hospital.
Police say they won't charge Rugg, but advise against people shooting firearms inside.
