My brother's dog was hit by a car and killed last night. Buddy was part lab, and such a sweet dog. He used to lie in front of the coffee table and let my nephew use him as a chair. My brother is pretty upset. He told my nephew that Buddy went to Heaven to play with my dog Wade. RIP Buddy. We miss you.

Did the person stop and help like a decent human or was it a hit and run? Was Buddy on a leash when it happened; was your brother present?

What happened was, my brother's girlfriend broke up with him, so he moved back in with my parents on Sunday, just to get back on his feet. He brought the dogs with him. My brother was outside with my nephew and at some point noticed that Buddy wasn't around, but figured he was just off in the fields somewhere, cause Buddy and his other dog Lumpy would go off into the woods or fields by our house. I guess Buddy wandered off to far and ended up on the highway that's aobut 2 km from the house. He didn't come home Monday night, so Tuesday morning, my brother went to look for him and found him. He was by a bend in the road so we think someone came around the bend and hit him. We're not sure if anyone stopped cause we don't know when it happened, but my dad said that it looked like Buddy died instantly, so that's good. I'd hate to think of him lying there by himself in pain. Needless to say, my brother is devasted. Coming so close to his breaking up with his girlfriend, he's pretty close to cracking. Thankfully my nephew didn't see him lying there covered in blood...I think that would've been too much for a 2 year old. It was hard enough for my brother.
We're not sure why he wandered so close to the road. A few days after my brother first got him, he broke his leash and was hit by a truck...and since then he's stayed away from the roads. I guess it was just his time.
