Wooki

Question:
I realize that I havent been on for a while. (computer problems)
unfortunately my first post in a while is a bad one..
over christmas time I had a friend her watching the kids. she has done it before a few times.. I have left her specific instructions (very very specific!!) and she even had my phone number and told her to call for any reason what-so-ever!!
anyway.. she fed the chinchillas rabbit food.. I noticed it when I came home.. imidiately I took it out of all the cages and dumped it.. gave them fresh food. Wooki didnt seem to be doing so well.. I just figured it was cause he ate some of the rabbit food.. and to give it a day or 2 and he would be better.. he was still bouncing around.. but not like his usual self. I still didnt think much of it.. he was still eating and drinking.. and taking treats every time I went in there. so I figured he was coming out of whatever it was. Saturday Janary 1st he was looking his worst.. almost over night.. so I called the vet. they were closed but had an emergency number. so I called them. they said it would be 140.00 just for the office visit and would cost more upon checking him out.. that didnt matter to me!! I took him in.. after I got to holding him for a while I noticed that he had chewed his fur by his tail.. and he isnt a fur chewer.. also I didnt notice any poop in the carrier in the time that he was in there.. and as we all know.. chinchillas dont go too long with out pooing.. and also.. no urine.. I figured maybe he was blocked up.. maybe a furball.. he always shed like crazy. the dr came in.. looked at him.. pushed on his belly.. said yes he is blocked up but we dont know what it is til we take an xray. so she took him.. (I was already crying by that time.. since he was squaking when she was pushing on his belly) after they took the xrays.. she came back with them.. and told me it was worse than a blockage.. he had a bladder stone.. and his bladder was full of urine. she said he wasnt waking up so well from the anesthesia and that doing surgery would be gaurded. his potasium level was way out of range (cant remember if she said it was too high or too low..) and also that if they did do surgery there was a definate good chance that he would get more bladder stones.. (if he came thru the surgery) when she brought him back in he looked like a rag doll.. seemed to be labored breathing. so I made the decision to put him down.. I didnt want to be selfish and put him thru the surgery if there was that much of a chance that he wouldnt make it. especially since he was already in the pain that he was in.. so I let him go over the rainbow bridge.
he is at my vets now being cremated.. should be a few more days and I will have him back. I wanted to put some bath dust in with him because he LOVED taking baths.. he always got wayyyyyy excited over them.. but I forgot it when I took him in.. so the other thing that he loved just as much was doing his backflips.. depending on the size of the urn I will set the urn in the hut he did his backflips on..
not a day has gone by that I havent thought of the little guy.. with his face plastered against the cage waiting for his treat and a scratch under the chin.. he was so full of life.. its a shame this had to happen to such a happy rambunctious boy...
I gave him all kinds of cuddles and kisses and told him I loved him before I let him go for the last time..

Answer:
Pam, I have tears in my eyes after reading your post. I am sooooooo sorry you had to part with your Wooki in that way. What a horrible way to start the new year

You did all you could for the little guy and I'm sure he is grateful for it. Hang in there and take care of yourself. We are here if you need to let out some steam

Answer:
I'm sorry, Pam. I know how much your furballs mean to you. You made the right decision, there is nothing more you could have done for Wooki.

Take care. We're all here to support you.

Answer:
Pam, I know that feeling all too well. I still get bummed over not having Tinsel with me anymore. Wooki was a big part of your life and it's very normal to miss him. All I can say is that time will help you heal.

Wasn't Wooki housed with another chinnie? How is his cagemate doing?

Answer:

Answer:
Oh Pam, I wish there was something more we could do for you! I've been through the pain of having to euthanize a chin, and so I completely understand the hurt in your heart
