PETA's Latest Stunts - What's the Message??

Question:
http://news.excite.com/odd/article/i...4|reuters.html
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Reuters) - Police arrested six shivering protesters on Monday after they braved cool temperatures and staged a nearly naked pillow fight outside Harvard University to promote animal rights.
The five women and one man, members of the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, were arrested on criminal misdemeanor charges, said police spokesman Frank Pasquarello.
I'm all for protesting in a manner that doesn't harm others, but am I the only person who thinks that public nudity is really inappropriate for the subject matter being addressed? I mean, i imagine if I had children, how upset this would make me to have to explain this kind of thing to them. I must not be very smart, because I don't see the message that parading around nude would convey when it comes to anti-fur protests. Sure, they aren't wearing fur, is that what it's supposed to mean? Or is it supposed to be like.. "look, we're cute almost nude girls, see how good no fur is?" I really, honestly, swear to god do not understand it.
"This is nothing compared to what the animals go through," protester Karla Waples, wearing nothing but pasties to cover her nipples and a pair of panties, shouted to reporters as she was led in handcuffs to a waiting police van.
Can you imagine having to explain that? I think there are better ways to protest than destroying personal property, or making displaysof near nudity. It was obvious that the message was lost on most passers by anyhow, as it claims there were many blue collar workers watching with broad smiles.
I'm not uptight about nudity, but I do think that a protest shouldn't be a strip show. Well, unless it's a protest related to stripping especially in places where children could witness it. I know a lot of people who would prefer their 5 year olds not see that kind of thing.

Answer:
I would DEFFINTLY not want to have to explain that to my almost 9 year old. Actually it would be more of a "there being stupid, there idiots, and there breaking the law".
Hmm wonder if anyone ended up wtih frostbite lol

Answer:
What a weird thing to do. I wonder what they were on to come up with that?

Answer:
I cant stand PETA!

Answer:
I think if it captured media attention, which it obviously did, it WORKED!!!
Pretty much anything you do to protest animal rights being nonexistent offends somebody these days, so I applaud these brave underwear-wearing folks for what they did.
Why does everyone think it's ok for flagrant abuses of animals like the mainsteam meat, leather & fur industries to go on, but a protest against them that is actually creative enough to garner precious free media time is disgusting & wrong?

Answer:
It's not the free media time they should be working on getting, it's a message. They made little to no impact on people with that stunt except for getting leered at by a few old men. I think the world is becoming more able to ignore PETA for it's constant cries for attention and often irrational ideas/ways of going about them.
I could parade around outside in the chilly air nude with a few friends and claim it's in the name of banning the cutting of trees, and I am willing to put money on it that people would be lookin at my whatnots more than listening to anything I had to say. It would get a spot in the newspaper, and then be forgotten. If PETA wants to make themselves look like anything more than the rowdy bunch that they are, they should find a better way to give their message. I personally do not agree with causing any sort of damage in a protest, in any way. They could figure out a way to protest in a more considerate way to the public, and themselves.
That, and I wouldn't applaud people doing something that could cause harm, and while pillowfighting with nothing but pasties over your nipples may be commendable to some people, I can't agree with it. Again, what would people say if their kids were exposed to that? My baby sister is only 6. She loves to mimic things she sees, I would never want her coming across something like this.
Why does everyone think it's ok for flagrant abuses of animals like the mainsteam meat, leather & fur industries to go on, but a protest against them that is actually creative enough to garner precious free media time is disgusting & wrong?
I think the main problem here is that nothing will ever be good enough for PETA members in the way of animal rights. Kill shelters are almost non exsistant now, animals get treated quite well by the mass compared to years ago, and things are still improving with help of interested individuals who actually go put their hands and hearts into the work, and address the issues out there that they don't believe in head on, with not only a request but a solution to it. Those are the activists I applaud, because they're not only trying to stop what they view is a problem, they're offering a solution to go along with it.

Answer:
Audri, that was very well articulated! Whenever I see the letters PETA it doesn't draw any attention from me. I also agree many of their methods are often used incorrectly and do very little if anything to benefit animals.
I was heartbroken when I found out PETA stormed into one of the chinchilla shows attempting to set them free. Many of those animals are very well taken care of and the owners put their hearts and soul into breeding a quality animal only for some fool to put their lives in danger.

Answer:
Anymore I think the word PETA and IDIOT run hand in hand.
I have no problems with meat factories but I have a problem with some idiot person running around naked in a public place where my kids would be subjected to it.

Answer:
I would protest a fur store...but I would be clothed while I did it. And I would NEVER condone them storming a chin show-that's stupid. PETA took some great ideas (no fur) and took them WAY too far. Oh, and as a side note...there was a fur show in Memphis not too long ago, and I had every intention of going to protest I was going to carry a picket sign that had a picture of one of my live chins on it.

Answer:
When it comes to meat factories, I DO believe livestock should be treated more ethically. It disgusts me to know how those animals are treated. I am not against people eating meat but I don't think the animals need to be subjected to a lower quality of life just because they are slaughtered for food.
