Hit by car (Puppy)

Question:
hey all, i just got a call from my sister and she's freaked out cuz her dog just got hit by a car
it's a small dog, don't know what breed (mixed) but she says she knows it has a broken leg, she has called all the vets in town but none will see her after hours for less than $80 to walk in the door, not counting any tests or anything..and she doesnt' get paid till morning...
anyways, she says the dog is alert and wanting to move around and such..but she went in to check on her and she had peed, and it had blood in it, not all blood but enough to be worrisome, with a small clot...
she is freaking out and afraid that she will wake up to a dead pooch in the morning and feels horrible that she doesn't have the money for the emergency vet visit...
anyone have any advice or anything? her email is amandah_03@hotmail.com and she is on msn messenger with that email addy...please help my poor sister
she said the dog was in their yard, next to the road, not even in the road, and the driver wasn't paying attention and kind of swerved off the road and hit her...she stopped and stuff and said she felt terrible about it, so it was an accident
(and if you have nothing but negative comments about not owning pets if you can't afford the vet bills or whatever, don't bother replying..she feels bad enough)

Answer:
this isn't really a negative comment but the dog really does need to see a vet. I know your sister probably knows this already but i don't think waiting until tomorrow will be good at all
Has she asked if the vets have payment plans? sometimes the vets will let you pay in installments over a period of time or I'm sure they would let her pay once she gets her cheque. I'm sure if she explains that she gets paid tomorrow they won't let the animal suffer.
Just a thought. I hope the pup is ok

Answer:
she's in a hick town in east texas...they aren't cooperating with her
it frustrates me....i mean, they are supposed to be in the business to help animals, but all they care about is the money...right now...she said she offered to leave the dog overnight and bring the money in first thing in the morning, but no go...it sucks...and she doesn't even have a checking account so she could float a check (which is what i would do rofl)

Answer:
Why isn't the driver who hit the dog paying for vet care? If she feels horrible about hitting the dog she should feel horrible enough to help pay for vet bills

Answer:
that's what i'm screamin

Answer:
Jami, any update? I'm assuming that your sister has probably gone to the vet already this morning. I hope that her dog is okay.

Answer:
it doesnt make sense that they wont let her pay the next day when she picks the dog up becuase Ive never heard of pre paying the vet,,you only pay when you pick your animal up so i have a hard time believeing that ,,,,also the woman that hit the dog shouldnt have to pay becuase they dog shouldnt have been anywheres near the road, I knwo you said the lady kind of went off the road but wouldnt she have gone in the ditch?????? and if it was lawn then IMO the dog shouldnt have been that close to the road
Good luck to the dog

Answer:
well, that's what the vets said...and i've been to vets where, at least for emergency services, they want the office visit charge up front, and then pay the remainder of the charges when you pick up the animal.
they live in a trailer park with an itsy bitsy teensy yard, there is like 5 feet between the end of their trailer and the road, so being outside = being close to the road, but now that you mention it, it's a miracle that it wasn't one of the kids rather than the dog, except i guess the kids would be easier to see, it's likea chihuahua sized dog
the last i heard from her the dog was still perky and playful, leg hurts, and she urinated again and no blood was a healthy light yellow...there's no answer at her house now so i assume they're still at the vet...

Answer:
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Answer:
My fingers are crossed too. Please keep us updated. Poor little puppy
If the pup survives, please remind your sister that puppies are like kids. It is up to us to protect them. He/she needs to be on a leash from now on. Nevermind the fact that if a person hits a loose dog.... people don't realize this.. but the driver can sue the dog owner for damages to it's car.
