Backyard Breeder vs. Reputable Breeder
Question: This is a Boxer website but someone posted a link to this elsewhere and I thought it was a great resource. http://www.jlhweb.net/Boxermap/reputablebreeder.html Answer: That's a great chart! Thanks for posting that.. Answer: That was a very good thing to point out. I went over it and everything on the "Reputable Breeder" side was the stuff we do before breeding our Akitas. We will even do "frozen" from a dog if he is the best dog for our female and "has what she needs." We do what we can to try for "perfect pups." Answer: That is a great link Answer: Here's another one I always preech... I'm new by the way...the name's Violet http://www.kateconnick.com/library/breeder.html Answer: That's another great site, Violet. Thanks for sharing. And welcome to the forum! Don't forget to introduce yourself and your furballs. The only part I'm not fully in agreement with is this: Beware of fads and people who ascribe to them. Some people feed their dogs a diet of raw meat and bones and avoid vaccinating their animals, for example. These people strongly believe that commercial kibble and routine vaccinations create immune system defects and compromised health in pet dogs. Perhaps that’s true for their dogs, in which case they should not be breeding those animals. Find a breeder who feeds a good quality commercial kibble and provides standard veterinary care, including appropriate vaccinations, heartworm preventatives, etc. I believe that pups should be vacinated when young but older dogs may not need yearly vacinations. And I also know several good breeder who feed BARF. Answer: I thought it was a good article as well. The part I wasn't in agreement with is that you can't temperment test a puppy. We do it at our shelter everyday. There are puppies that are born with a bad temperment. We've put 'borderline' puppies up for adoption and if any puppies are going to be returned it will be them. I've seen it many times. If you have never seen a little puppy with food aggression or object guarding, it's kind of cute.. but it's not so cute when that same puppy is 5 or 6 months old and can do more damage. Answer: Those are both good links. Thanks for posting! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
