do you think petstores are bad?
Question: do you think petstores are bad? yes or no? why or why not? please vote and explain! Answer: Are you talking about pet stores in general or the fact that some pet stores choose to sell animals? Answer: the way some treat there animals. what i meant to say is "do you think the petstores in your area are good or bad?" Answer: Well it all depends on the pet sotre, the owner, the pet store chain, the workers, etc. Not all pet stores are good, not all are bad...Everyone is different. Even if they are both Pet Supplies Plus (just an example). I have heard of some Pet Supplies Plus' around the US selling animals and not having the best store, and the one near me...the only animal they sell is fish. The other store near me is family owned (was the fathers' now the sons') and they take good care of their pets, and are good people, but don't know much about their chins...The chins look dead when it is Summer time, because they are in tanks and have no air ventilation, etc. Then the other pet store near by takes pretty good care of their pets but I was looking at these "hay nests" for rodents and found a dead mouse and tirds and such in one, and seeds in the other. It was gross.. I showed it to the staff right away...:barf: Answer: It depends on the store... There are a few pet stores in Ottawa that sell pet supplies but don't sell pets. I try to frequent those stores, as opposed to the pet stores that sell puppies (who knows where those animals came from *cough* puppy mills *cough*) and other animals. There is one particular pet store chain I absolutely refuse to buy from as they very obviously sell puppy mill puppies. (They also sell mixed breed puppies for $500! And people buy them!) Answer: I too think it depends - I have 6 in my area - I think 2 are absolutely wonderful places - 3 are absolutely awful in all aspects - and 1 is somewhere in the middle. One of our awful ones is a seller of puppies and kittens from mills - one of the good ones also sells puppies and kittnes but handraised animals kept in human and actually nice conditions. Everywhere that I go I find the same thing.... they all tend to keep animals at different levels and the people very in their knowledge and understanding of the animals that they do sell. Answer: There is only one pet store within 3 hours of me I will go to. One I went to to look at some stuff for my pets, and I saw all kinds of animals. Chinchillas, and ferrets in cages right next to a cage of barking mixed breed puppies for $25 and a cage with a Bichon Frise puppy for $300, and then they had mice, hamsters, rats, asst. lizards, birds, cats, gerbils, guinea pigs and fish. The aquariums they had for sale were obviously used, as they had waterspots all over them, and for used tanks they were grossly overpriced. In addition, they didn't have heat lamps, or fluorescent lighting on any of the reptiles. I was talking to a lady, who, when I said i had chinchillas grabbed a piece of paper off the counter, and wanted my phone number. I told her that I would give her the number when we got to my car, since I will not do business in a pet store. anyway, when I got home, a few days later, I called The Pet Store to see if they had something I needed and the owner went nuts on me, saying the lady I gave my number to came in to see if I was in the store. she wanted to buy a chin from me. She claimed I gave the lady my number on store property, and I am now banned from the store. I don't really care........I mean, come on! Why would someone in a petstore offer to throw in a free $60 bird if you buy a $50 cage???? So, my favorite petstore is one that just opened-Very knowledeable about their animals, and has a great selection of supplies! Answer: We have two petstores in Airdrie. Both are really good. One sells hamsters, fish, some small lizards, and sometimes finches and kittens. The kittens are not from mills either, they come from rescues and stuff. The other one doesn't sell animals, it just sells supplies and does grooming and boarding for dogs and cats. Answer: I agree that not all pet stores are the same, some are good and some are bad. When my boyfiend and I were first deciding as to whether we really wanted a puppy or not we did go to the pet stores to take a look at the various breeds to get a better idea of what we thought would be the best breed for us. We went to one petstore that was absolutely horrid. The cats were intermingled with the dogs, not in the same cages, but still close together. There were dogs who were too large for their confines that looked very uncomfortable. The store in general stunk and I don't mean it was horrible in general, I mean it truly stunk. It was dirty and definitely needed a good cleaning. Almost as soon as we walked in and saw the conditions of the store we walked back out again. I wouldn't have even considered buying a puppy collar from that place let alone an actual pet. I felt horrible for the animals. I always get sad when I see pets in pet store where the price has been reduced, because then you know that the puppy has likely been there a while and no one has wanted to give it a home yet. Its sad. We ended up getting our puppy from a breed who was not too far from our home. We felt bad for not getting a puppy from the pet store, but we wanted to make sure we could see where the puppy came from and get a better idea of the temperment of his parents and the environment in which they were kept. Answer: Yeah, I know of a petstore that was like that. They thankfully closed down. The store was oned by the APPLIANCE store next to it!!! It was the first couple of weeks it was open, which was when I had gotten my first grey cockatiel there. After 2 weeks, though, the birds were is 6 inches of filth-they were kept in big horse troughs, not in cages, frequently there was no food or water in the tanks, and I won't even get into the rodents and small animals! The bird I remember most was a big blue and gold macaw with an attitude problem. He was one not to trust with his beak near you. for some funny reason I did trust him. He never bit me though one day he grabbed my arm with that big beak of his and said "C'mere baby!" he was a real talker. he would say things like come play, I love you, hey cutie, gimme a kiss, find me, see me, come here, i see you. Very neat bird. I felt so sorry for him in those conditions. Out of all the birds, he was the only one who had a cage. i visited him alot, but eventually they moved him behind glass because they said he was sick. I could tell he was miserable, and he would say let me out. His name was Zach. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
