what kind of pet should I get

Question:
I have a very large aviary type cage with no pet in it. Any suggestions on what I should get? I want something unique that is easy to get food for and take care of. Cost is not really an issue.

Answer:
Hmm, let's see.. how about a chin, lol? (Yes, I'm biased! ) If the wire is close enough together, the pan isn't chewable, and you can put shelves and stuff in it, it sounds perfect for a chin...
Chins are inexpensive to feed but research them very thoroughly before you think about getting one.

Answer:
I agree, a chin sounds great if you're up for it I also recommend extensive research before you bring one home, I waited 2 years

Answer:
Oooo ... if the cage wire is small enough ... fill er up with hamsters or gerbils Atleast 20 of the little fellas!!! Naaah ... just kidding ... but it would kinda cute to see.
Maybe you can actually try venturing in the field of birds ... a talking amazon parrot or a cockatoo would be fun ... but they can get a little expensive ...

Answer:
If I were in your situation (where money's not really an issue), I would totally get SUGAR GLIDERS!!!
They are so cute, and I would totally take mine everywhere with me Well.... maybe not EVERYWHERE.... but anywhere I could!

Answer:
actually, the reason I have the aviary is that I have sugar gliders and they are proving to be too much trouble so I want to get rid of them and get something easier to take care of. I'm thinking of getting a bird, but I don't want one that's too squawky.

Answer:
may i suggest that you thoroughly research for your next pet? i think that if you had researched sugar gliders before aquiring them you would have no need to get "rid" of them now........i am very much against having "disposable" pets which people get and then dispose of when they realize they are too much "work".....
so may i suggest that your next pet perhaps be a stuffed one????

Answer:
Sugar gliders are a lot of work ... its hard to actually realize how much work they are from what people say ... I'm pretty sure Michelle doesn't mean actually get rid of them in a bad way ... I'm quite confident she'll make a good decision to where they go. And there's no difference in my opinion regarding selling sugar gliders because your a breeder ... our selling the parents because you need to deviate your resources ... your still selling the animal. Dont get me wrong ... I do agree however with the whole disposable pet topic ... wholeheartidly ... its just I know Michelle from past contacts with my Hedgies and I know she wouldn't make an uneducated purchase.

First of all, let me say that your comments are unfounded, and quite frankly, a little rude. I researched sugar gliders for over 5 years before I got them. I also took care of a friend's gliders so I knew what was involved. The 'trouble' was not that I didn't know what to expect, or that they were too much work. It was simply that my gliders demand to be fed at 8 pm and I often have to work between 4 and 9. By getting rid of them, of course, I would make sure they went to someone who was willing to commit to feeding them at this particular hour. As much as I would miss them, I am considering finding them a new home because I feel that I am acting in their best interest.
I too am against people getting pets and disposing of them by giving them away or letting them go into the wild. What I am more against is people keeping pets because they are attached to them, even though the animal is not suitable for the owner's lifestyle.
Now, with all that said, please let me rephrase my question. Does anyone have any ideas for a kind of animal that can be kept in an aviary, and does not demand to be given fresh food at exactly 8 pm every night?

Answer:
I think it's hard to suggest a particular pet for others.. it has to be your choice...
I'd be more concerned about what type of pet you've always wanted to have.. instead of what pet will fit in your aviary. If you are interested in owning a bird/s, that would be a good idea... some are more noisy than others so you'd have to research them well and maybe contact a Bird Club.. as they have info on all types of birds. Good Luck with finding your next pet
