How many pets can you handle?
Question: Just curious as to how many pets people can love and cherish. I mean sure we can love and cherish ALL animals but how many is your perfect number, considering your life etc. Right now we have 6 (soon to be 7) pets. I honestly couldn't handle any more than that. I actually find that the mice don't get as much attention as they deserve. It's because they don't like me so generally I let them be. I make their cage as exciting as possible and I can get one out sometimes so I'll get her out but the other one just jumps everywhere. They get to run in their exercise balls when I clean the cage. I don't like scaring them but I have to get them out to clean their cage so it seems like just scaring them once is best. Once they are gone (I still love them) I won't get anymore. I've reached my limit. We are taking Cindy on because she isn't hard to handle. She's fairly well trained (my p's trained her to bark when she wants inside...I need to re-train and get rid of that cause I hate it, that's my only complaint) and doesn't need lots of exercise. She's happy to just lie near us and know that she is part of the family. Once she is gone We won't be adding anymore. With the way life is at the moment, and things that we are planning, four pets to love on will be the perfect number to us. I guess it doesn't seem like a lot but hey, they'll get sooo much time devoted to them!!! We're also moving somewhere that allows one pet. They agreed to two and were told to sneak the quiet ones (rabbits) in. So we are restricted in that sense too. Just wondering how many pets you own...have you reached your limit? Answer: I don't spend as much time as I'd like with my two chins so I guess that's my limit. If I could get one or two more to live in the same cage that would be fine but I'm not going to risk ending up with two sets of chins Answer: I think that I would be okay with another 2-3 pets. I don't think that I could easily add another species. My pets (other than Taz) are all in pairs so it makes it easier to care for them. Plus, I know that they always have each other when we are out and that they are not lonely. Answer: Cool thread Carmen! I'm pretty much at my limit right now. Not because I can't handle it, but because its hard on me when I lose them. I've had to euthanize two of my bettas, and watched another die of a terrible disease. I've had fish non-stop since I was 10, so I'm ready to take a break from the fish tanks. Right now I only have two bettas left (each in a small tank) along with two corycatfish (had 3 but one passed away today) who I have had for many years. I also have a snail and a tetra. Once all those guys are gone, I'll be taking a break from fishies for awhile. But I'm going to miss them! No more buns...right now anyway. Two is the perfect number for me. It would be even better if they got along, but having them in separate pens is fine too. By having only two, I can give them each the attention they deserve. Three kitties is the perfect number for me. Two isn't enough, four is a little too much for me. So no more kitties. I'm loving having my three! Five ratties is plenty. They LOVE being in a group so I'm happy that I have so many. They sleep in a big rattie pile and its so cute. They are very active and need to come out each night, and it would be hard to keep an eye on more than five. So I'm good there! I actually can't believe I have 7 mice! I hadn't planned on getting so many, but I saved them from being snakefood. Honestly it doesn't seem like I have 7 because there are always a few sleeping in their little house. None of them like me at all, so like Carmen I pretty much let them be. They live in a HUGE plastic storage container and they have two wheels and lots of toys. I probably won't be getting anymore mice when they are gone, unless I am in a situation where I can't resist saving them from being snakefood. I love having one hamster. She is a dwarf hammy and she is the cutest thing. She's getting pretty old for a hammy. When she's gone I will probably get a syrian hamster. I haven't had one since I was a kid. Sorry for writing a book! Answer: Right now, 1. Answer: I think I could handle one more dog...just not a puppy. After that, I wouldn't get any more dogs. I've also decided not to get any more rabbits right now...my current three are a handful. I could probably handle a couple rodents...like gerbils or hamsters and I'd be fine with a few more bettas (I'm actually getting another one in a few weeks). I plan on getting a lizard or a frog in the auntumn....and then I'll have my hands full and that'll be my last pet for a while! Answer: 8 cats is more than enough for me right now But I'd love to have more degus...unfortunately I can'r right now cause my 2 still have giardia and it's contagious And 2 hamsters is good for now. Answer: Carmen, great thread! My limit is 10 chins and when the day comes and we can have a dog, I will say 2 dogs max. I couldn't handle anymore animals than that. I also can't have a variety of species either. It would be too much for me to handle. It is good I know my limitations and I stick to them. Answer: I have one dog. I'd love to have my oscar, chins and Keesha & Ally back. I could handle all of them and I would've loved to keep them if I weren't moving halfway across the world on a tight budget. I think that's my ideal composition of pets, an aquarium, a pair of chins (I'd like to get same sex ones so they can share a cage instead of the boy and girl I had the last time) and 2-3 dogs of various sizes. I've always been constrained in terms of how many and the size of the pets I could have due to my housing. So I won't be getting anymore pets until I live in my own home. I'm living in my parents apartment right now and space is limited so Lavander is just nice. Answer: I'm not really sure. I know we want atleast one more dog and my liney. Guy wants a SW tank too, though he needs to pitch in more for that. Chins are good, pry try to keep it under 30. Cats are good, but if need be I can handle a few more.
