Do you think it is bad to sell a dog online?

Question:
i had seem quite number of classifeld site.....that the pet owners are puting ads on the classifeld and auction to get their pet sold. .. maybe most of them are breeder. but does it seem to be cruel?.... or do you think it is bad.....or do you think the classifeld should stop people from placing a ad for selling their pet?

Answer:
I don't see anything wrong with it. Generally people meet prospective owners they come in contact with over the internet.

Answer:
Advertising it is one thing, but selling it is another.
Many people who sell online ship their pets to the owner. OFten they have never met them.
If I sold puppies I would sell within not too large a area so that I could check up on my puppies as well as meet and see the future owners residence and get to know them.

Answer:
I personally don't see anything wrong with it.... But I too would want to be in the area the pet was sold, so that I may have the chance to check up on him/her when I feel the need to.

Answer:
I have a problem with it -- it's the pet seller's responsibility to make sure that animal goes into a responsible home. It's difficult to get to know someone over the internet, and judge their ability as a responsible pet owner. The Humane Society of the United States has a great tip-sheet on how to find a good "forever" home for any pet:

Answer:
like was said, advertising is one thing, selling is another...

if it is sold in a "we'll see how you work out and then make the decision" basis, i don't have a problem, but if it is sold sight unseen completly over the internet with no kind of interview, getting to know the new owner or anything, then i don't really think it's that good of an idea

Answer:
I myself would never sell to someone who not only have I met, but who's home I was invited into to see the housing and living conditions.

However, I've adopted three rescues from NJ, I never met the rescuers and they never met me. Maybe it's a different comfort level with rescues
