weird morning

Question:
whew..mom woke me up this morning saying "please tell me this is a stuffed animal" i'm like, huh?

so i go out and right in front of our house is this little fenced in area where we keep the spare stroller and the garbage can...on trash day we roll the can out to the curb, like your average picket fence family :P

anyways, under the stroller is this mass of fur..i'm like, erm..that doesn't look like a stuffed animal..we move the stroller and it's a cat! it looks like it's been dead a while..i mean pretty well decomposed...

the mystery is..why haven't we found it before now? it's in tact so it hasn't been moved and put there (at this stage it would be easy to tell, it's that far along). why hasn't it smelled? over there it usually smells a bit like garbage, but nowhere near the stench that a rotting animal would cause in the mississippi heat...no large numbers of flies buzzing, the dog hadn't even paid any special attention to that area...nothing to give any hint that there was a dead animal less than 3 feet from my front door! we still haven't figured it out..there should have been ample evidence that there was something up..heck it's right near the dryer vent! the odor should have been relentless!

i mean, my house is far from spotless, but i think i would know if there was an animal rotting right outside! i know i would lol...it's baffled me...how did it get there? when? what happened to it? where did it come from? so we are waiting right now for animal control to come and get rid of it for us...

anyways, we were out puzzling over this discovery when hubby left for work after lunch, we waved by and has he pulled out something really freaky came scuttling out from under the car..at first we thought it was a rather large spider and mom and i both did the obligatory shriek and jump...then we looked closer, and it was a little crab! the body about an inch long, with legs outstretched it was maybe 3 inches wide...we picked it up and oohed and aaahed over it, feeling its little claws and showing the kids, then we took it across the street to the field, where there's a little drainage creek thing that goes out to the bay and let her (i don't know, she just seemed like a her lol) go...she was dark reddish brown and really cute, her face looked a whole lot like the aliens from independence day

Answer:
Hmmm... that's odd. Not too long ago, there was a day that there was a sudden stink in my and my sister's room... My sis yelled at me cause she thought it was my cages... heck, even I thought it was my cages, and cleaned everything... when the smell hadn't gone away, I mopped the floor thinking that it may had been that Odie's poo/pee (he goes on pee pads and sometimes he misses by an inch... I always mop it with clorox, but thought that maybe I had missed a spot or something)... and the smell was still there... Then, I thought that Charly and Vale had been pooping near my room.. well, that evening I went to feed them and right by my room's window was a dead rat. My dad had been feeding them for a couple of days since I was away, so maybe he didn't noticed it... specially since those were rainy days and he sometimes just puts food and water and goes right in... well... it was as disgusting as you can imagine... aparently it had been there for 2 days... maybe... so I had to tie the dogs, and bury it... then clean the cement area with clorox... all under the rain... I so wished my dad was home at the moment... lol.. came back soaked and muddy (since I was all dirty already I decided to had a bit of a mud fight with the dogs... lol)
I think that you are right, it should have smelled... a cat is much much bigger than a rat, and man did that rat stink up half the house! LOL

Answer:
yeah! exactly! and this has been there for much longer than 2 days..probably closer to 2 weeks...

the guy came and picked it up and went to the field across the street and buried it..which i thought was kind of cool..

then, mom came in and asked where alyssa was (my 5 year old)

she was taking a nap so mom said "tell her that Amy was buried"

i was like, ok...apparently, when alyssa saw the cat, she asked what its name was, mom said she didn't know, so alyssa decided that "Amy" was a good name. then asked what we were going to do with it. mom said she didn't know, that somebody would probably come pick it up...alyssa got really sad and solemn and asked "will they bury Amy? Amy needs to be buried!"

so we set Alyssa's fears to rest that Amy was properly erm..put to rest lol

my child amazes me sometimes *shakes head*

Answer:
well, we know what kind of crabs they are, they are mud crabs, a kind of fiddler crab and there have been lots more of them..they are really cool, mom gathered a bunch of them and put them back out across the street where the little creek is..i guess it's some kind of mating season, but i don't know why they picked our yard to do it in! lol

we do have a new "pet" though..one of the boy crabs was apparently low man on the totem pole and i figure another crab snipped off all his legs so he only has his really big claw left..we have him in a small aquarium in a little dish with some mud from the creek, his eyes are perky and he waves his claw at us whenever we go by, i'm hoping he might just pull off a miracle and make it, but i'm not holding my breath

heh i got the feeling they didn't know about it until it was already two days along...same with this cat..it was just weird, we think maybe the ants got it and did away with most of it before the stink got too bad, so it may not even have been there as long as it seemed...plus the ants could have taken care of any fly problems as well...

Answer:
Yeah, we didn't know about the rat either... I've been out of my house, and dad was feeding the dogs, and since it was rainy that week he wasn't spending too much time in the backyard... just long enough to feed and water the dogs... so... the rat went unnoticed... hehe
