Question:
My brother, his wife & my 2 nephews had their dog Ellie euthanized a few days ago. Seven years ago the family decided they wanted a Boxer puppy.. so went to check out a breeder located in Quebec. The breeder wasn't a very reputatable breeder as it turned out.. and when they saw the 'mom' of the puppies.. my sister-in-law (who is a huge animal lover) immediately asked the breeder if she could buy the mother. It was very obvious that she was bred over & over again and was too old for this to continue.. The breeder told her that Ellie was 3 yrs old.. but their Vet said she was more likely 6 or 7..
Ellie was the sweetest Boxer ever! Since she spent her first 6 yrs in a kennel, she was very hard to housetrain.. but with hard work and after ripping out all the rugs in the house and finally taking my advice about crate training.. Ellie was finally trained. She had a couple of minor tumors removed over the years, she was suffering from seizures where she wouldn't recognize anyone and would stay in that state from a few hours to a day.. plus in the last year her arthritis in her hind end got progressively worse.. My brother built a ramp off the front steps so she wouldn't have to climb the stairs, but she was frightened of the ramp so my brother or his wife would lift her up the stairs after her pee breaks..
I will miss Ellie very much.. especially being licked by that huge tongue of hers! She was almost obsessive about licking things & the people she loved. Here is the last picture I took of her at my nephews birthday party in July..
