Betta in a Vase

Question:
ok, so i work at wal mart...and they have recently started selling these..for anyone who doesn't know, it is a vase for a peace lilly that you put a betta in..usually has a tray with rocks at the top to keep the plant from falling in...

i hate it...it made me so mad when i saw we were selling them...so i did something and it was approved by management!

i made a little notice to buyers to remember things that their betta will still need..it isn't ideal but it is better than nothing...and my boss thought it was a great idea! :vibrate:

oh and thanks bunnicula for letting me use that pic!!!

Answer:
Very good idea!! I actually have one of my bettas in a huge vase with a plant. It has so much room and still has lots of its happy bubbles!! I clean it every week and rinse the plant roots and rocks very well. Ive had him for about 2 months now and all is well! I still treat the water and feed him. Doesnt seem to affect him or my plant. All are happy!!

Im sure there are some weirdos out there that think the plant will somehow provide nutrients for the fish and wont feed it.... or will just replace water as it evaps instead of totally cleaning it, so your reminders are good idea! Id go write that site on all the tags of those vases!

Answer:
Your reminders are wonderful! That is an awesome idea!

Answer:
I'm so glad that your care sheet was approved!

Answer:
Excellent information! That should be printed out and distributed with each sale of the fish/vase/plant.

Answer:
yeah, what i did was print one with the picture and taped it where they are on display, then i printed like 6 copies (there were only 3 set ups available at the time) and set them right there next to the vases...so hopefully

Answer:
I'm shocked that you didn't need approval from head office. Every big box store I've worked at, or known people to work at can't do anything without approval from headquarters

Answer:
yeah, my assistant manager didn't even ask the store manager..which was cool, though i know the store manager would have gone along with it...i'm lucky that i work for good people...and i think wal mart is kind of special in that we can take initiative like that...with the open door policy and the whole thing based around the fact that most of the sales ideas are actually generated by regular non management associates...it's really a pretty good place to work at

Answer:
I'd never want to own fish, just because I'm not a huge aquarium fan, but I did hear that in the wild, betta's live in rice fields with very little water...the water is shallow and they don't have alot of place to move around in...so it isn't cruel to have them swimming around in a small bowl - supposedly, that's more room then they would normally get in the wild.

Again, I don't know too much about fish but that's what I've heard on more than one occassion...
