Bye, Little Pig
Question: Thank you all so much for your kind words in my other thread. I am sad to say that Little Pig left us today. I flew home at lunchtime to check on the poor little guy, and he had a major respiratory infection – just gasping for breath. I mushed up some fresh nuked apple, but he wouldn’t eat it, even with me forcing bits into his mouth. I phoned a bunch of vets and none of them had piggie vets available. Finally I called my own vet, and they said to drop him off anytime and they would put him to sleep for me, but they don’t allow owners to stay with small animals. Of course by this time I was bawling my eyes out. So I sat and cuddled him as long as I could, willing him to give in, which of course he didn’t. Molly, Penny and Alex all jumped up on my lap and sniffed at him and tried to wash him. There was no way I was going to end his life by dragging him out in the cold and leaving him with strangers, so I wrapped him in my shirt, put him in his cage and wished him a safe journey. Of course now I feel 17 kinds of selfish because I had to come back to work and couldn’t stay with him. I just hope he’s in a better place now. Answer: I'm so sorry for your loss Liz, I know how hard it is to lose a pet. You should not feel selfish because you spent your lunchbreak making sure he was ok and that he could go in peace. I'm sure he's in a better place now, where he can run with all the guinea pigs who have passed, 5 years is old for a guinea pig, though it's not a long time to us, I'm sure his life was perfect in his eyes. Answer: I am so sorry for your loss Liz. But I'm sure it was better for him to be able to pass on in peace. He knew he was loved and you tried your best. That's all a piggie could ask for. Answer: I'm so sorry Answer: Liz, I am sorry to hear about Little Pig. You certainly gave him the love and care he needed. Answer: I'm sorry for your loss Liz. Be thankful that his passing was quick and relatively peaceful. Answer: *Hugs Liz*I'm sorry, Liz. He had a good long life. Answer: Originally Posted by bunnicula I'm sorry for your loss Liz. I am sorry for that slip-up. Answer: I'm so sorry Liz. You did all you could for him and I am sure he is very grateful and watching over you now. Answer: Thank you all.
