Time Problem

Question:
I am concerned that I don't have enough time to committ to Haley the hedgehog, because when I am home I am either (a.) walking Hank outdoors, & (b.) in the bedroom w/ gp's & Cub. I wanted to integrate Haley into the bedroom playtimes, but people on here have warned me taht it would be unsafe.
I don't know what to do. I would pass Haley on to a better, more ineractive home if I could find one, if I can't solve this problem. The reason ratlady gave her to me was lack of time to spend w/ her. Now I am having the same problem.
And she is a WONDERFUL hedgehog. Great personality, active, sweet, not affectionate, but that's ok.
Is there any way I could have her, the chin & the gp's out @ the same time? I just don't seem to have any other time available, unless I cut short everybody's playtime.

Answer:
I thought that it was unsafe-but at the same time I don't know anything about HH's. I hope you can figure it out

Answer:
i think this is everyones dilemma when they have more than one pet.........and I think it is no different when someone has more than a few chins who can't be let out all at once.......as they will fight...........I have no solution to the problem other than giving them turns out....as in alternate days.......which is better than no time at all............lucy is out every day however, the chinnies take turns and don't seem to mind

Answer:
first fo all, get haley a big running ball so that the poggie has runtime and free range time all over. to him that is free range/play time. it does not have to be one on one time. as long as when you put her in and take her out, you give her some lovie times and a few special times here and there. also, to a a hedgie, bonding time is cuddle time. hold her while you are watching tv. typing on the computer, etc. use a hedgie bag, a towel, something that haley likes to cuddle in...or wear two shirts and let her cuddle between them and sleep. or carry her in a small sling purse or bag while you do small errands in the car or around the house, touching and talking to occasionally. my poggies go shopping with me, cuddle under my neck while watching tv, or lay on y wrist and snore while i browse the net after they have ran around the house like little maniacs!
and yes, after a lot of supervised intros, you can have more than one critter together during freetime, but your hedgehogs have to be extremely comfortable with ther animals. my hedgies lo=ve my cats, sleep with them ocassionaly, but are not found fo the guinea pigs since they make high pitched noises. as for the rats, the hedgies couldn't care either way.

Answer:
I would just alternate their playtimes. Maybe have the gps and Cub out one night and Haley the next. I know that you like to have them out every night, but it's really not going to hurt them to take them out every other night.

Answer:
From someone with different species under one roof... I alternate nights for playtimes... or I have one chin @ a time playing in the bathroom & the guinea pig playing in the livingroom.. my guinea pig gets along great with my dogs & cats so she gets out more often then the chins...
Don't feel guilty if they don't get out every night Neuro...

Answer:
You said haley has a wheel, right? She gets plenty of exercise then. What she needs from you is cuddle time or like Weesiepoo said, get an old purse and carry her around with you while you do other things or hold her in a hedgie bag while watching TV or on the puter.

Answer:
Do you have an old denim or material/canvas purse or canvas bag? That's really all you need and you can put some material in it (make sure there are no loose threads or frayed edges) for her to cuddle in. Hedgie bags are so easy to make if you can sew a straight seem. It is just 2 bags, one inside the other so there are no seams facing out and then folding down the edge like a christmas stocking. You can use denim, twill, sweatshirt material, heavy flannel or fleece for them- I cut up old sweatshirts that I get cheaply at rummages or thrift stores to make them. You can also pin or sew shoelace or something like a shoelace to the sides and wear it around your neck. Old purses or back packs work great without any sewing.

scroll down to the sleepy bags for $7.50 each. That is US dollars, but you get some idea what they look like in case you want to try and make your own.
