Seizures (Rabbit)

Question:
My broken blue mini rex buck started siezing last night around 2 am and siezed one after another until after 4am. I was up most of the night. He is only 6 months old, been healthy his whole life. Not fly strike or parasites. He eats the right food and it's good food.
Thhe only thin I can think of is that he likes to jump ut f hs tank and I think he may have smashed his head? I can do nthing financially right nw abouot this. He is better this morning but I can't see it being a one time thing. He als was completely blind and ran into many things during and after the siezures. During the seizure he kept jumping, dunno if he was coherent enough to want to jump out, just a result of the siezures. And he would stand up on his hind legs and his head would tilt back while he was grinding his teeth and snapping and he would fall over, shaking into the water bowl, and then go tearing madly around, terrified. I felt horrible. He had no control and when he came out of it he had no idea what was going on. He was breathing real fast and really strange. I was surprised to tell the honest truth that he wasn't dead when I got up this a.m. His siezures have stopped for now. I just hope he hangs on long enough to get him to a vet.
Has ANYONE had this happen? What was the outcome? How do I help him when this is happening? He is hurting himself when he does this. All I could do was pad the daylights out of his tank last night, I HAD to go to bed. I got kids to take to school in the morning. I heard him flopping around for a while and then it went quiet. I got up this a.m and hhe wants to drink but he is scared of me and any noise freaks him ut. I noticed last night with the siezures that everytime I startled him or made the slighest noise, off he went into a siezure.
No ideas, but I just bred this rabbit and expecting the litter Friday, isn't this going to affect the kits?
Someone please help, I can't watch him go through this.

Answer:
If seizures in rabbits are similar to seizures in chinchillas, your bunny needs medical attention asap. Sounds like he had a pretty severe case. 2 hours is a long time for seizures. Is his vision back or still not there? The only thing you can really do when this happens is make sure he's not injuring himself (ie padding his cage, remving any objects he could bump into. etc.). If the seizures were indeed caused by epilepsy then it COULD be transmitted to offspring but it's not 100% garanteed. Iwould definitely not breed him anymore if you can.
If you can get to a good vet he might be able to shed some light on what caused this (maybe not). Your bunny might be put on phenobarbitol, a drug that prevents seizures. This is a human grad drug and luckily is pretty reasonable in price. Make sure that when you go in, you can describe the type of seizures to the vet. this oten makes a difference in diagnosis. Write down what yuou remember if you can. This always helped me when we visited the vet.
Hmmm I am going on experience with my chinchilla. This is all I can think of...Could any bunny people confirm or correct me on some of this?

Moving this to the emergency forum and leaving a copy here in the Rabbit forum to get more traffic.

I hope the bunny people see your post and offer some advice soon! I really don't have any experience with rabbits at all.
How is he doing now?

Answer:
Cleajade, he is sort of sitting in one corner of his tank. I am sitting with him right now. He is real jittery and very nervous. Not himself at all. He is terrified of something. He keeps acting like he is going to sieze again. If he does I am going to have him put down.I think he has sustained major brain injury or a stroke. Wih me luck, I will update.

Answer:
Oh and thanks Candycane, will read those!

Answer:
Is there anyway that you can see a vet about this? If it is an injury, maybe they can do something to help.

Answer:
Working on it Candycane
