So long Keiko..
Question: One of my lovebirds passed away this morning.. His spirit is probably flying free among the clouds but.. His body is still in his cage being guarded by his wife! After he was gone I wrapped him in a cloth and put him back in the bottom of the cage so Kiwi would understand that he isn't coming back.. I had him lying on his side with the cloth pulled back so Kiwi could see him.. She climbed down to the floor and was chirping at him.. I had to leave the room for less then a minute and when I returned.. Kiwi had totally covered him up with the cloth and was standing on his body! She has been curled up with him all afternoon.. I wonder how long I should wait before I take him out.. maybe before I go to bed? Fly with the wind little buddy! You have been through alot the last few years but now you are free! Answer: I'm sorry to hear this. RIP Keiko! Answer: I'm so sorry Poor Kiwi - will she be okay when you've removed him from the cage? Answer: I hope so.. I was told by a co-worker (who knows birds better than myself) that it's a good idea to leave the body in the cage so the mate has a chance to grieve.. I wouldn't want Kiwi to die of a broken heart.. I'll let you know how she copes.. Answer: Im sorry for your loss. ITs especially hard when you have the living companion grieving with you. Sometimes even with rats and other animals it is best to let the other pet see that their friend has passed as its more of a natural thing for animals than for people sometimes though hard on both species all the same. Best wishes to you and Kiwi. Answer: Thanks for your support Jess, MM & Bridget.. Answer: I'm really sorry Sue Was Keiko your lovebird with seizures? At least now he is at peace. Hopefully Kiwi will find a way to cope with his loss. Answer: Sophie.. That's right, Keiko was the bird with the seizures.. and the scissor beak.. and the leaky eye.. it was finally time as he was spending more & more time at the bottom of the cage & wasn't eating much in the last couple of days.. Answer: Oh, Sue, I'm so sorry about Keiko...I hope you and Kiwi are both ok Answer: I'm sorry for your loss Sue. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
