poor monkey
Question: can you believe this???? http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/ns/news/...69.htm&sc=1120 not for me!!! at least someone got him outta there and hopefully wont have a bad life because of the torture.. Answer: Totally disgusting. How can people do such things to animals? Answer: Ick. Sounds like a Thomas Harris book. *shivers* Answer: i actually saw that, where they ate monkey brains, on one of those sicko movies, Faces of Death....it was horrific, i can't believe they still do it!!! Answer: So raising monkeys at home is banned but people can eat their brains in restaurants? Answer: Banshee, it doesn't look like they are allowed to as they are a protected species, so perhaps had the authorities been notified with enough warning, something may have been done to penalize the restaurant that tried to serve this monkey up. Besides the fact that eating brains is totally unsafe and disgusting in my mind, they could have at least been humane enough to kill the poor creature before eating him... Of course, if they had done that, then there wouldn't have been anything left for that man to rescue. I think it's funny that we sit here and say "How can they still do something like that" about another culture. I know that there is no harm meant in these statements, but I often look at these statements as pride. "We're better than them because we don't [insert foreign practice here]". In my mind, these Taiwanese people are practicing part of their culture, superstitious as it may be. But, there are many examples of things that we do to this day that are superstitious and I'm sure, several years down the road, someone will say "How can they still be doing that? It's so passe, or dumb, or pointless, or inhumane, etc." That said, I do not condone or support this practice in anyway, I just understand that certain things will take longer to change and who are we to step in and say that we're better than they because we don't do those things? Answer: i totally see your point, bex..much like the hindu beliefs toward cattle...or the muslim belief towards pork (ok so two sides of the spectrum there lol) many cultures view our "soft" feelings toward animals as a sign of weakness..go to spain and tell a bull fighter that he is humane and you'll get laughed out of the place, because, to them, torturing a bull to death is a big show of manhood and strength *sigh* Answer: I will go and say how can they do that because it is not part of my culture like Bex said and I do not understand or have the beliefs that they do about such things. I saw this thing where in order to be declared a man they must ride on horseback up to these chickens and ducks that are hanging from there legs and tear their heads off as they gallop through I have nothing agaist those mock bullfights where the bull is not actually harmed because it is sort of like a dance...but to think its a sign of strength by cutting up an animal with weapons is just wrong...i believe in fair play, take away a "BIG MANS" weapons and he is nothing but a scared little boy! Answer: That is absoultly disgusting. I have heard of this before, a friend of mine was in a foreign county I can't remember which but they actually witnessed this happen to a monkey, or so they say. I was absoulty in shock that people would actually do that. I couldn't imagine how painful that would be for the poor monkey, yet they eat while the poor thing is still alive. That is just sooo awful, I can't get over it. Answer: YOu should see how dogs and cats are caged and treated before they are eaten in Tawain and other Asian countries. It is enough to give you nightmares for the rest of your life. I have heard of this in several places but I recently saw an episode on this on animal planet. Apparently it is a custom of the older generation over there to eat dog and cat. Animal advocates are actually pulling some dogs out of those cages at the market (a lucky FEW), rehabilitating them and using them as spokesdogs to educate the people. Apparently many of the older generation had no idea how awesome dogs can be. They always viewed them as food and nothing more. I hope this works I'm sorry I understand about cultural differences and I feel for ALL animals, especially if they are being tortured....but dogs and cats.... I just can't bear to hear of them treated in such barbaric ways. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
