Question:
Grizzly has left us today at age 23months. There will never be another one like him. Isaac took it pretty well since we were expecting it, but I hate he had to find him. Grizzly continued to eat well and even exercise, even though the tumor continued to grow and he had become quite bloated over the last month.

Isaac picked Grizzly out as the smallest hamster in the cage at the petstore. Grizzly couldn't have been more than three weeks old. When Isaac had had Grizzly about a week, Grizzly's cage got knocked off and we almost lost him. He spent three days walking in circles, falling over and fitting. We handfed him until he finally recovered. Since then, Grizzly has always been very special. He was the perfect first hamster for a 9year old boy and Isaac has been the perfect hamster owner.

We are definitely going to miss him, but I am glad that his struggle is over before he got to the point that he could not eat or get around. It was Isaac's decision not to put Grizzly down, and though I wasn't sure I agreed before, I know now that Grizzly got to spend his last days being doted on by his boy and that was the least this very special, sweet, and gentle hamster deserved.
