Why? Ditto of all creatures!

Question:
Just made a very hard phonecall to tell Steve that Ditto is gone. I swear I go in 10 times a day checking on Chester- he's bloated, slow, I know he's going to leave us soon, but Ditto!?!?!?!

I walk in the bedroom- calling Ditto like always- expecting him to crash into the cage door like always, knowing I have a treat for him. No crash. Open the cage- no movement. Ah, geez.

He's always been the healthiest rat, always been active, shook the whole room running in his wheel. Steve thought rats were icky until Ditto. I paid $3 for him out of the feeder tank- when I first saw him and picked him up adn he kissed me right on the mouth- I knew he was just the right little and friendly rat to win Steve over. God, he loved that rat.

Just don't understand- he was never sick, never acted old. He was barely 21months old.

I just wish Steve could have held him one more time. I feel really bad for getting him something that he would become attached to and it leave so soon. I knew it would happen, was just hoping it would be months from now. Many months.

I buried him in his new hammock. He hadn't even had a chance to pee in it yet.
