Cage Corrosion
Question: What can be done to fight it? After 4 years Cub's cage bottom is getting rusty & the paint is flaking off. Can I paint this w/ rust paint? I can't afford another huge cage right now, after her vet bills.... Answer: Is it only in one corner? Could you put in a litterpan? Answer: It's actually all over the wires on the floor. Answer: You could buy some paint at Home Depot. I know they sell animal safe paint (safe for creatures to eat). You could just paint (or spray paint) the rusted out parts. If it is really bad then you should probably seal it with some sort of primer first. I'm not sure of the product names but the people at Home Depot are really helpful. I don't know what you would do while the cage is being painted and drying though. You'd have to find someplace to put Cub for approx. 24 hours. Answer: Neuro, ALso depending on where the rusting is and who the company you got your cage from you might be able to get just a replacement for that portion of the cage instaed of buying a whole new cage. Rincewind what do you ask for when you go into Home depot? Just animal safe paint? i might have to try that with a cage I have. Answer: Hi.I have a friend with rabbits and she paints her cages with rust paint .She just makes sure that they are compleatly dry before she puts rabbits back in it.She usually leaves it outdoors to dry for 24 hrs and she has never had a problem. Hope this helps. Answer: im having a cage done myself right now. it was all galvanised cage and boy it was soooo stinky that i had to do something. i called the local sheet metal shop and he is sandblasting it and painting for $35. i could have done it myself i guess but then it would have been a big messy job to deal with. Answer: Any updates, Neuro? Answer: I am thinking of calling the shop ratlady mentioned, as I am sure my cage would be stolen if I put it outside my building to dry.
