Monkey Bussiness
Question: Hey all! As some of you may know, I'm studying veterinary technology. As part of our program, we do a rotation in which we spend 4 days working on different areas of the profession (farm animals, horses, regular clinic, emergency clinic, exotics, research). My last rotation was at the Caribbean Primate Research Center, working with Rhesus Macaques. I have some pictures of my experience that I wanted to share with you. 8) Here I am doing a tuberculine test on a monkey. (it is anesthetized, BTW) Here is my partner putting a rabies vacc. Here I am giving some fruits to the monkeys Monkeys eating fruit Holding an anesthetized monkey... Here I am holding a set of twins that were around 2 months old (orphans, and were being hand-raised) Feeding: I really really like this pic. It was our last day, and they told us to to an inventory of the medicines they had. We did it while each one holding one of the babies... lol. I was on the floor writing the medicines available and the expiration date while my partner was standing and telling me the medicines. I loved the experience there, it has been the best so far, and I hope to do my practice there... but I know there's a couple of people in my class that also liked it there and want to do the practice there... (I got a grade of 100 in that rotation too!!!) Ah!!! also, yesterday I went to Cayo Santiago, which is also part of the caribbean primate research center, but there they have a colony of wild monkeys that are used in behavior studies. It was AWESOME! I have pictures of that too, but they are still in the camera and I have to wait for my niece to bring me the cables. From January-March it's the trapping season in which they trap all the monkeys, give them their shots, take blood samples and tattoo the babies from that season, and we are going to see if we can take a day or 2 off to help there... 8) Answer: Hi Padfoot, Thank you for posting some great photos....I was looking into taking pre vet here in Montreal. Red Answer: Those are awesome pics! I wish I could work with primates! Those orphans are so frickin' cute! Answer: Thanks! I'm working at the animal resources center of my college, but I liked the primate center better... I got to do a lot more direct work than I do at work (the closest I do is inject the monkeys IM through the cage bars). What I do like about my work is that I get to also work with rats, mice and hamsters. 8) Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
