fish

Question:
I'm interested in getting an aquarium some day so I'm wondering if anyone has any good links for me to read. (both salt and freshwater)

Answer:
Lisa, I am sure you will love it! Fish are so easy to watch especially after you have had a stressful day. Dave and I learned as we went along and got some great advice from our friend who is a manager at an aquarium store. We never read anything on the internet so I can't help you there.

Answer:
The first thing I need is a bigger appartment . Unless I hang it off a wall there is no room for even a tiny aquarium...

Answer:
Lisa, yes, a good size aquarium takes up space. We have a 55 gallon aquarium in the dining room but we don't have a dining room set so thankfully there is room for it. We also have a nice 10 gallon aquarium in our bedroom.

Answer:
There are a bunch of fish forums out there, I used to go to Fish Index (I think it's www.fishindex.com) a lot of them are quite obsessive about testing water and can get quite preachy about your fishkeeping practices if they don't like what you are doing.
I think it was more expensive to keep a fish than to have dogs. The setup was pretty costly if you want good equipment to keep your fish alive. And you never know when a bout of ick will strike and you might have to quarentine your fish or treat them.
I like fish, but I don't like the maintanence work associated with it
Maybe you could get a 5 gallon tank and have a betta pal? They will do quite well in a 5 gallon, few other fish would. They are very pretty to look at as well

Answer:
Thanks for the link Diana, there seems to be a lot of interesting things to read there . Maybe I'll save the forum for later when I have some specific questions.

Answer:
Lisa if you do get fish you'll have to let us know

Answer:
my dad had a saltwater tank when I was like 6 or so... he had a lot of expensive fish... very pretty ones too.. one morning (another one of the ones that should be posted on the why men shouldnt watch kids link) I got up and decided the fish were "thirsty" (how in the world do fish get thirsty??????) so I gave the fish a whole gallon of milk to drink... I didnt know they couldnt DRINK milk!!! needless to say I got in trouble.. my dad wasnt happy that all of his nice fish were "sleeping" at the top of the water.. lol he had a HUGE tank too.. I would have to say probably at least a 50 gallon tank.

Pam you were really a handful when you were little! Your adventures remind me of a book in french called The misadventures of Sophie (loosely translated). I know about it because my name is on the book but that poor little girls did all sorts of things like you!
