Interspecies Rivalry

Question:
Last night the gps completed their quarantine period so we let Cub & them get "up close & personal"- carefully, of course. Cub was chewing on them & trying to mount them, finally spraying pee all over FM's hindquarters. THe gps were very interested in her.
I am hoping that they can eventually be friends......

Answer:
It could happen but my guess is that it's going to take lots and lots of time. Maybe you can try the vanilla trick with all of them?

Answer:
So the guinea pigs like Cub but she doesn't really like them at all, huh? Maybe she's just trying to be dominant?

Answer:
I used to let 11 rats, 8 guinea pigs, 2 chinchillas, a hedgehog and 2 degus run and play together. I have pictures of them interacting, I'll scan them sometime and post them. Everyone got along fine, altho everyone had to rebound off the hedgehog once, to see what would happen. Funny, they never did it a second time.

Answer:
lol.. poor GPs.. sounds like Cub didnt like someone else hangin out with her.. hehe.. Im sure that eventually you will probably be able to let them play together..

Answer:
The introductions get easier each night- there was lots of sniffing last night, then Cub started chewing them, not hurting them, but then she reared up again & pee was flying!! But katescritters' post gives me hope. I would like for these guys all to get along, I would like Cub to have some friends who are rodents.

Answer:
Good luck neuro.
Some people also keep their Guinea Pig, Chinchilla and degus living togther and they get along great. I've heard things like the chinchillas help groom the Gp's and nurse there babies! Too cute!

Answer:
Good luck neuro, I hope Cub accepts (or at least tolerates) them soon!
